It's just amazing how long the urban AC stations are playing CMN - it's still the #13 song. I'm surprised they never had On The Couch as a followup - you'd think even without the record company releasing it that motivated fans alone could get On The Couch some serious Urban AC airplay.

wow!
grammy time ya'll! DETROIT Played The Crap out of that song on Mix 92.3 and Kiss 102.7, even the hip hop stations (fm98 & 105.9 jamz) would play the song occassionally through out the mid day and even late night for their love segment of the show.

I've heard it on 107.5 WGCI a few times. Some stations just like 2 hop on the bandwagon. They don't want 2 take chances playing songs that aren't hot yet because they're so paranoid of losing listeners. They wait until they're absolutely convinced that one particular song is hot before they start playing it, and by then it's 2 late. There's a station in Crystal Lake (NW suburb of Chicago) called Star 105.5 that does just this. And I can tell u the only Prince songs they ever play are his classics from the 80's. They wouldn't dare play "Call My Name" on their overly conservative AC format. So many radio stations just suck like that. Don't hate me 'cause I'm NOT beautiful

Well I just came from the Somerset Collection (Very upscale shopping center for the non-locals) and I kid you not, I walked into Nordstroms and CMN was coming through the sound system. I nearly fainted!! I couldn't believe it!! Apparently it was getting some air time on one of the "other" radio stations. I guess getting nominated for Grammys really does have it's priviliges!

I definitely agree that On The Couch would do well on Urban AC radio. In fact, it would likely go to #1 on that chart. However, it would also be a hit on Urban radio, with its sexual inferences and all. Probably a Top 40 crossover as a result. It doesn't even need a video to be successful. I've said many times that Prince should continue to incorporate all types of music into his albums, but that the R&B/Urban AC types of songs should be the ones to be released as singles. This guarantees airplay for his new material.

I'm convinced fans could make this song a hit - if someone would organize encouraging people both here and the other prince sites to call in and request it, after enough calls, stations would start playing it - and it'd only take a few stations to start for On The Couch to take off. Urban AC stations still playing Call My Name in strong rotation would be the place to start.

Chicago radio is the worst...it hurts my soul deep inside to listen to the so-called black radio stations (i.e. V-103 and the evil 'GCI)...I just have to always keep a fresh stash of CDs readily available...

I was at Target yesterday and they were playing CMN in the cd section. Not as upscale and fancy as the Somerset Collection, but it works for me.

I was bored at work, so I contacted three R&B stations in the two cities that I am often in and requested the the song (On the Couch) be played. I do think that this song can take on a life of its own outside the album, sort of in a way that Adore did with SOTT. I am NOT saying it's as good, just that it can survive on its own if given a chance. I am going to call another R&B station in the city tonight during the Quiet Storm segment and make a request. We'll see.
