Stop dissinKirky.J. It seems that every time Kirks name is mentioned it is followed with a diss on his drumming or production. What many of you seem to refuse to accept is that it was Prince that either called the shots or delegated production responsibilty to him, basically he was just following orders. If the songs sound plastic remember that Prince is the one that accepted them. Above all think about what a good friend he has been to Prince during perhaps the worst time of his life. Kirk has a heart of gold , do you think that these jibes don't hurt him ?, i KNOW they do. Last year at the celebration he showed his chops on the drums. When you listen to the cds that he worked on in context of Princes career to date they add to the unbelievable variety of his work. There, now leave him alone and show some respect.

I'll add to that. Those of you with the Diamonds and Pearl Video collection on VHS. Re-watch the section with the little interviews and see how proud Kirk Johnson looks to be a part of the NPG (as dancer and percussionist). I always thought he was the coolest of the Game Boyz. The man obviously had talent, and this must have been sensed by Prince too. I never understand the complaints about his influence on the sound of Prince's music. Prince has the final say about how a record sounds even if it may not be to everyone's taste. Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

People always wanna point the finger. It is or Larry or Kirk or Prince himself not being what they want him or his music to be, just let everybody be themselves and look at your own before you point the finger, right?
Like Prince has no mind for his own. Lots of PFFFFF to the finger pointers.

I totally agree.prince has and always will have control over his own music and if he wants a particular sound then that's what he has his fellow musicians create 4 him. which was the case even b4 kirk was in his band. as 4 his drummin' skillz, u only have 2 watch the beautiful strange/cafe de paris vid and watch his awesome drumz/human beatbox duel with doug.e.fresh or his drummin' with the baldheadz. "we gonna get a little respect"
