TAKING NON BELIEVERS TO A PRINCE CONCERT STORIES?

i would like to hear any stories of orgers dragging their friends/family who didnt like or could not stand prince to concerts and what their reaction was after? did you win them over or did the experience do nothing to change their minds? confused

I haven't been able to get any to a concert yet, but I know that showing them this last year's Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame guitar-solo performance sure impressed many of my "non-believer" friends. My brother hated Prince for the longest time, and now has nothing but respect for him -- and this came about after hearing the many different songs Prince has written and seeing his various performances on TV and video.

I called my brother from the concert cause I went alone sad
and I wanted him to see what he missed

He later promised he be at the next show
because it sounded like it was a really good time

Damn that was a high phone bill! I could have just bought his
ticket now that I think of it!! mad
If you will, so will I

i honestly don't see why people need to do this with whichever artist, just to prove a point.

everyone i have talked to has had similar experiences...didnt like him, went to concert, loved the concert, new admiration of prince live but on record still not much of a fan....my ex didnt like prince when i first met her but once she had been at a concert, she couldnt wait to see him live again but although she likes some of his records, she would rather listen to chart shit like westlife or some other boyband crap, despite knowing that they couldnt hold a candle to prince in anyway eek strange confused

I took one of my best friends to the second night at the Garden show- She'd never been to a Prince show and I had been promising to take her for years.

I met her at will call, we walked down to the floor level, kept walking, kept walking, walking and we ended up in the front row right in front of the couch!
From the first note of Musicology to Purple Rain, she had the biggest smile on her face and still raves about it.

The coolest thing about taking first timers to a Prince show is that they "get it" afterwards... I've raved about his live performances for years and I think she was a little sceptical, but not after that!

I've taken first-timers over the years and it's always been the same reaction, but this was the first time they'd been that close to the action and P actually winked at her at one point!

But I have taken a few non-appreciators to concerts and all of them became MAJOR fans afterwards. I even had a few people that went on their own call me and say "now I know why you dig Prince so much." I cannot tell you how many people called me after the Musicology shows telling me that it was the best concert they have ever seen.

Ironically, I had the same experience at the SAME show. eek Prior to the concert my date didn't "get it" AT ALL. We went to nights 2 & 3 at the Garden and she was floored. We had killer seats and Prince was in rare form both nights. People usually "get it" after they see him perform live.

aaaaah totally! i only have one...lol. but that's alright, i shall tell anyways. I was totally excited about going to see Musicology but i didn't wanna go with just my dad. I asked my friend Danielle (who, bless her forever, got me started on Prince in the first place) but she didn't have the money to pay me back. So i asked my friend Kara, who i knew didn't really like him at all. But she said that she would come with me just for the funn of it and that she wanted to share the experience with me. Well, when we got there i was like hypervenelating cuz my dad got really really close seats. She was all like
"omg tess, u TOTALLY need to calm down."
keep preaching to the choir babe, i wasn't listening
when the concert started i looked over and she had this HUGE smile on her face and it stayed there the whole night.
when i took her home she kept talking and talking about how incrediable it was and how it was the best concert she'd ever been to. she said
"omg! i TOTALLY love Prince now! not as much as u, of course. but i need to burn some of ur cds, can i borrow them?"
sadly, she is not an open committer to Prince. But eye no that deep inside she is craving for more!

for a graduation present, my boyfriend got me tickets for him and I to go to Prince's last musicology show in L.A. I was completely floored because he's not a fan at all. he's more of a metallica kinda guy... lol but we went and had a great time. I didn't convert him (damn!), but it was fun dancing together all night.

I took my friend to see Prince in Seattle. Not even a prince fan he was brought on stage by Prince and played a guitar solo. I was happy for him, but man I was wish it would've been me. But I got to sing with Prince a few songs later so that made up for it...big time!

I've been a lone Prince fan for most of the last 20 odd years in terms of mates. Two of my bros are fans to extents though so only been to one gig alone. All my mates think he's a prick.

i took, my mum, sister and girlfriend....all of whom were not big Prince fans at all before the concerts and all of whom who walked out with the biggest smiles on their faces. Now my girlfriend is an avid fan, my mum likes to dance to Prince with me redface and so does my sister. My sister even listens to Prince a fair bit these days, and they all said it was by far the best show they had EVER seen, of anything.

Jess has never been to an American concert, ever.... SO I took him to see Prince this past August. He was determined not to have a good time..

He said Prince was a sissy.. I said ok.. but I think Prince is gonna change your mind..

I was facing the other direction looking for my niece. I turn around and he is getting his groove on... He really did enjoy the concert, and enjoyed Candy.. smile

Also:

My nephew's wife drug him to the concert.. He absolutely did not want to go. I couldn't find them. But later that night, after the concert. He called me up and said Aunt that was a a kick ass concert..

I said very humbly; Yea, he does kick ass..
