Australian Fans - Listen Up!

Im here 4 u 2 save a buck or 2

As u may or may not be aware, next Wednesday Feburary 2nd sees the Australian release of the region 4, PAL version of Purple Rain Special Edition 2 disc set, Under The Cherry Moon and Graffiti Bridge on DVD.

Some of you here may have already ordered this from overseas, but for those of you that haven't (I personally have held out 2 get this PAL version as it has more lines of resolution, etc.) I have done some searching on some prices for the set.

It seems the RRP of each will be:

Purple Rain SE - AUS$29.99
Under The Cherry Moon - AUS$19.99
Graffiti Bridge - AUS$19.99

A total of AUS$70.00. This is what HMV have the DVD's priced at.

However, If ur in Sydney / ACT or Melbourne, check out Dick Smith Powerhouse stores. They will sell the DVD's at the following:

Purple Rain SE - AUS$24.48
Under The Cherry Moon - AUS$15.84
Graffiti Bridge - AUS$15.84

A total of AUS$56.16, a saving of AUS$13.84!

4 those of u that don't have DSE Powerhouse in your state, check out Big W for similar prices. Both companies are owned by Woolworths group, so their stock should be priced quite similar give or take.

This thread is designed 4 everyone 2 post on as 2 where 2 find it the cheapest.

Hope this helps out

JB HI FI would be another outlet that would probably have the set at a cheaper price, but don't know what that would be as of yet.

more lines of resolution? I don't think so, they would have just converted it straight from the NTSC. no discernible improvement in quality.

hey, i'll get back to you as soon as I can about that list by the way, dude....i'm just very busy at the mo'.

thumbs up!

Well if Warners had any brains they'd take the transfer from the original film and not an NTSC copy (I hope confused )

PAL has two significant advantages over NTSC. First, PAL offers higher vertical resolution (576 horizontal lines, rather than NTSC's 480). The second is that film sourced PAL DVDs do not suffer from interlacing problems. That's because PAL runs at 25 frames per second, so when films are transferred, they are merely sped up by 4%, so that each PAL frame exactly matches each film frame (which run at 24 frames per second). NTSC, though, runs at 30 frames per second so somehow each four film frames need to be used to create five DVD frames. More info on this is here: http://www.bydeluxe.com/r...o_film.xml

PAL leaves NTSC for dead, especially for film. Some don't like the 4% speed up on the soundtrack (To me personally, I have never noticed it but I guess some may hear things that I don't, but bottom line is you will probably not notice the differences between the 2 unless u put on 2 copies side by side and nitpick on their good and bad, faults and flaws). Just be assured u'll have 3 great looking DVD's

I have a copy of UTCM of VHS as well, and I can definitely tell the speed up and pitch change for the soundtrack.

i WOULD prefer a pal copy of UTCM on DVD, but I'm quite happy with my NTSC version.
