Whats the latest on the remastered Purple Rain CD with extra tracks?

Whats the latest on the remastered Purple Rain CD with extra tracks?

I would love a remaster of the backcatalogue and even better, with some demos, shelved tracks and whatever included on each. At least remastered if nothing else, i think for PR, a long version enhanced 20th Anniversary Edition CD would rock. I bet it would sell really well. Hey we all deserve to hear Prince's work in high fidelity don't we? As long as they don't screw up the remastering process, that would suck. A simple clean up would be really cool.

Another thing that would rock would be singles box sets, like the 2 from Duran Duran on CD. They include all orginal single artwork, bsides, including 12" b sides and even the labels on the cd could be replicated. It would rock for nostaga fans. I think Prince has enough old school fans for these to earn out. They would be expensive and there are alot of singles from the man, but maybe split over 3 boxsets? I would buy them.

Finally, while i am tripping and dreaming here, what about all Prince music videos remastered onto dvd...i would love Automatic and Batdance and I Wish You Heaven all on DVD remastered....

Who knows what?

I'd love to see double CD editions! biggrin

First disc: Original album - remastered
Second disc: B-sides, long versions, rarities, unreleased songs/demos - remastered

Except Sign O' The Times - it would be a triple CD edition! biggrin
And the 3rd disc would include songs like "Rebirth Of The Flesh" & "The Ball"!

Okay, I stop dreaming! boxed

Yeah, that's be cool, but I'm guessing Prince won't give his nod to the project because he's "not into living in the past -- I live in the NOW" or something like that.

What about his fans that live in the now but like to listen to music from 'back in the day' Sly, Earth Wind, Prince..etc...See my point?

I bet Prince has the remastered In the Jungle Groove by James with extra tracks and remastered....

I think the real reason is because he have control issues. Always has!!

For someone that doesn't like to live in the past, he sure doesn't practice what he preaches. The song "Musicology" is pure 1970s James Brown style.

The latest news on it is, that there isn't one and one has never been planned.

Sadly.

$$$$$!
If he remasters his WB recordings
he has to share the $$$ with WB.
Its all about ownership & $$$ & control & power.

Partly right, add to that that Prince usually has a crapload of current projects to worry about and the likelihood of him investing alot of time in remastering a 20 year old album becomes less and less. It'll happen one day, but don't hold your breath.

I don't think this will happen anytime soon, either.A remastered PR cd with all the trimmings should have co-insided with the anniversary edition of the film.

I've been putting off purchasing PR on cd hoping for a remastered edition but I guess i'll break down and buy it.(I haven't owned a copy of PR in over 15 years)

All that is, is people talking about how great a Prince remaster would be and a few claiming they know Warners personally and that they definately are/are not going to do it.

So basically, just like a standard thread on here!

see, i have that problem with him, too. he's all about living in the everlasting now and moving forward into the future, yadda yadda yadda, yet 'musicology' was all about how great the old skool is, and then there's 'reflection', and the whole concept of the concert being like a classic soul revue. not that i'm complaining - i loved all that stuff - but when the conversation turns to his OWN old stuff, it's all about how we shouldn't dwell in the past and all that. well, okay. but if he can dwell in james brown's past, why can't we dwell in prince's? minor nit, but i don't think it's an insignificant nit in the least.

In one of the more recent interviews he stated that he in fact would like to see remastered CD versions of his 80s albums, but WB isn't interested releasing such at the moment.
