Why does Prince portray women so badly in alot of his songs? Seriously don't you find it odd that in alot of Prince's lyrics is portays women as unfaithful or hurtful or writes about how fearful he is that they will cheat/leave him. I mean Prince of all people! I just want to laugh that he writes lyrics like these when he is the one that can't control himself. Like songs like:
"Why you wanna treat me so bad?" "Beautiful Ones" "I hate u" "Something in the water." "Sleep Around" "I love you but I don't trust you anymore" "Anotherloverholeinyourhead" omg I could go on and on....can anyone say hypocrite? I mean seriuosly Prince what is your problem with women?

Prince doesn't seem to mind singing songs from a woman's perspective.Maybe some ofthese are things women have said to him. [Edited 1/22/05 0:10am] CALL ME A DREAMER 2!

Alot of it is due to his obsession with vagainas.
He's often tried to juggle his obsession with the female organ with more spiritual matters, but sometimes it gets muddled. In Pussy Control he actually praises girl power, but often times he digresses during that song back to focusing strictly on the vagina itself. For example the lyric: Pussy got bank in her pocket, b4 she got dick in her draw's --obviously he started off with the best intentions about saying that "PUssy" as he likes to call his women was in charge of her own life and destiny. But eventually his obsession ends up turning the person "pussy" into a figure of speach, and eventually just into the organ itself--So basically "Pussy" the character ends up becoming nothing more than a highly educated life support system for her vagina. Prince does have the best intentions--it's just very hard for him. Hopefully his new faith in Jehova will render some of his past yearnings slightly less intense.

As is typical for Prince's "do-wrong woman" songs. The egocentricity of Prince. He just cant understand how a wonderful guy like himself is treated so poorly by women. Maybe he is treated so poorly because he is not such a great guy after all, being so conceited and self-absorbed he cant even conceive of that as even a possibility. only in When Doves Cry does he admit that "Maybe I'm just to demanding. Maybe I'm just like my father too bold." Goodnight, sweet Prince.

Computer Blue is Prince's unrealistic search for the perfect woman. Searching for his ideal woman the "Righteous One" Wendy's "The Righteous One" speech calling Prince a "Poor lonley computer." Which is included in the lyrics printed on the album sleeve (and which is in a longer version of the song) "Poor lonley computer, poor poor lonley computer, do u really know what love is? (Because of his emotional detachment and mistrust of others.) Poor lonley computer, it's time u learned that love and lust are different words." Wendy say "It's time you learned that women arent like butterflies. Were computers too, just like you computer blue." She says that he "loves to fast and hates too soon, and take for granted that the feeling's mutual." By saying that women are computers too, the message is that he is wrong to think of women as perfect beings (butterflies), they can have the same feelings as he does. Fathers song is played on guitar to show that he is repeating behavier. Goodnight, sweet Prince.

Great analysis. Let me just add..... Are you insane? I don't see how you figure that he's portraying them badly. He so clearly loves women. Everyone is most scared about being hurt/rejected by the thing you love. Aren't you? It's a human thing. There are so many songs you could choose where he is outright admiring women. I can't think of one where he disparages them really (except for the Darling Nikki type song, of which there are few) A very short list off the top of my head of woman appreciation.. TMBGITW Adore Scandalous U Make My Sun Shine When 2 R In Love Eye Would Die 4 U Pink Cashmere etc... Shucks, you have to mix it up a bit to keep things interesting. Every song can't be about how unconditionally fantastic and great and perfect women are. Love songs by women follow the same convention. Remember, all gret theater/drama is about conflict.. otherwise it is BORING. Come here, babe.. yeah...

There are millions of songs about cheating partners, or the insecurity that they will cheat... and all the other painful aspects of love. I don't think it's a pattern in Prince's songs, or something like that

I'm posting this without reading the thread even. Why R men portrayed so
badly in songs by women? Greivances. Both sexes have them. Song is an outlet along with many other avenues. Prince along with many other artist...even rappers...have loads of songs which praise women.

and when they use us up.....they gone! First off a man can only be used only if he allows himself to be used. Let me also say that as a woman there are times that we are as bad as men or even worse. As far as how he portrays women in his music I don't think he portrays them badly I believe he has a high respect for all women. Listen to all of his songs they are not all portraying women in a negative light.

I really honestly don't understand this thread, this topic. I am new, I admit, but I have heard a lot of his official recordings already. I have never heard a song that would be un-respectlful in tone. Some coarse language, some cocky attitude, some outright filthy-talking, but not lack of respect.
Yes, he sings of heartbreaking, of being dumped. Women leaving, cheating, using. People do that, men and women both lie and betray... And he, as fine as he is, must have been rejected enough to know how it feels and make songs about it. I hate U...seriously a good song! -S-

I think his songs have all aspects of relationships.
Some would say it's unbalanced that he cheated on women and gets mad (in songs) when they cheated back on him. (According to bios. I personally don't know just like the rest of us.) Well, to stay on topic, I throw in the long version of "Thieves In The Temple" where the lyrics pop up all big on the screen while we are trying to enjoy Robin Powers from the neck down. Shall the Org pop in the video or DVD and lets all sing.....um, Robin can't you take off ALL..... oh, sorry. "U led me on thinking U was Moses, Herdin' blind sheep in 2 a fantasy for nine and a half weeks.

TMBGITW Adore Scandalous U Make My Sun Shine When 2 R In Love Eye Would Die 4 U Pink Cashmere Untrue. That song infamously contains the line "Why don't we skip the foreplay, mama?" that always makes me cringe. No person who would be able to appreciate a woman thoroughly would suggest skipping the foreplay, otherwise you are most likely doing it just for your wn pleasure. Damnit, that's not equality! And "Eye[sic] Would Die 4 U" is not really about women - it's about Prince himself. "Me, me, I, I, blah blah..."

simple: women sing about do-wrong men. s'just a mere reversal of the sexes. no "portraying badly" about anybody, it's just a ploy used in song that's been in effect for ages.

How could Prince portray nothing but the wonderful qualities of women if human nature suggests neither sex can ever truly be nothing but wonderful?
Prince simply expresses his different sides through different songs. These include his romantic side, his sexual, his spiritual, and his lighthearted among others. In many songs Prince has celebrated women, but because he's lived and experienced the real world, that means he's bound to have seen the faults of women too. He has every bit as much right to express the faults as he does to express the good. It's simply being honest and telling the whole story. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

You guys are reading too much into it. I think Prince's songs are much more about the art of projection: "you hurt me, so I'm going to hurt you"...or, "I'll hurt you before you can hurt me." This is what being human is all about and part of the allure of Prince's mystery. We all do it. Reverse psychologically: "I'm really a bad, narcissistic, self-centered person, but I'm going to project my insecurities onto you in hopes that you'll feel bad and come back to me." It's co-dependency at its best, and I think that's what is going on in "Eye Hate U." Also, in "The Beautiful Ones." Even in "Sister," "Head" and other songs where Prince supposedly plays the victim. He's really NOT the victim; the story is just more interesting writing from that perspective.
Over the years, I've tried to convince people that Prince is not a misogynist; he doesn't hate women, but they listen to a song without going behind the lyrics in search of a meaning. People take Prince far too seriously...

Honestly there are times when foreplay needs to be skipped for the sake of a quicky. If Prince wanted to skip the forplay I would say go for it!!!
