i love this album
disc 2 is kinda corny though.... i can't stand let's have a baby, and all those mayte worshipping songs. But "the holy river" is absolutely beautiful. Disc 3 is the winner on this album

It does seem that Prince albums grow on everyone through time, I think we have too high expectations when they get released. Musicology used to take a mauling on here, now its being praised and debated about constantly. I love Emancipation, disc 3 is the winner for me, but why has no one mentioned My Computer? So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

My computer is barely a good AOL commercial ;o) But I shall say that disc1 is the ultimate winner here. I can prove it: "everybody 'here, this is the jam of the yeaaaaar".

I don't see them as "Mayte worshipping" songs either, but just beautiful love songs that happened to be inspired by the love he had for her at the time. Your top 10 choices were horrible too!

Umm how were they horrible? Purple Rain, Beautiful Ones, etc. are horrible?!
Here's my list again, and why I picked each one. 1.) Purple Rain-The definitive Prince song to me. Magical, somber, wise, and in the end, powerfully uplifting. 2.) The Beautiful Ones-Beautifully haunting and inspired. The perfect song to sum up romantic desire and frustration. His rant at the end is one of the most memorable, emotionally driven moments of any Prince song ever. 3.) Gold-An absolute adrenaline rush. A song that not only sums up Prince's 90's career and fight with WB perfectly, but one that completley lifts you up and fills you with positive energy. That guitar solo at the end? Devastating. 4.) The Love We Make-Simply beautiful. Very powerful, poignant message full of spirituality and hope. 5.) Kiss-The quintessential feel-good song for self-esteem. Irresistably catchy and fun; one of his absolutely perfect pop songs. This song is easily one of Prince's most likeable, charming tunes. 6.) When Doves Cry-Unique, brilliant, innovative, and easy to relate to. No bassline and almost no emoting in the chorus? Risky stuff, but it works perfectly. A truly perfect pop song; totally addictive. 7.) Sometimes It Snows In April-A heart touching ballad with wise lyrics that perfectly sum up the pain of loss and the healing that eventually comes with it. I honestly can't think of a more healing song upon losing someone you love than this. It's incredibly gentle and therapeutic. 8.) I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore-What song sums up mistrust better than this? IMO This is the best piano ballad he's ever written. He's so obviously in pain during this song, and it's a heart wrenching, hauntingly sad song as a result. 9.) Adore-Pure romantic bliss. Gorgeous in every way. 10.) The Question of U-Has one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard in a Prince song. A classic ballad with a haunting sound to it throughout. I love the little production touches to this one too. Disc III takes it all for me. "Slave," "Face Down," "My Computer," "One of Us," "Style," and "New World" rocks my bedroom silly. Ooh, little darlin' if you're
free 4 a couple of hours (Free 4 a couple of hours) If U ain't busy 4 the next 7 years (Next 7 years) Say, let's pretend we're married and go all night

It's not like Disc II is full of songs like "The Joy of Mayte" or something.
Songs like Soul Sanctuary and Let's Have a Baby are beautiful love songs that can be appreciated by anyone in love. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Friend/Lover, la la la..., Sex in the Summer (oh so what, it uses the heartbeat, that doesn't mean the song itself is Mayte specific), Betcha by Golly..., The Holy River, can easily be related to as universal love songs. The line "the look in a pregnant woman's eyes" Mayte specific? Oh right, cause it's not like any other woman's ever been pregnant. The point is, just cause they're about Mayte doesn't mean they can't be easily applied to your average person, cause he hardly ever mentions Mayte by name. It'd be different if he was constantly saying stuff in those songs like "Mayte, you're my soul sanctuary" or whatever, but he doesn't, so it's left open to ppl who are in love in general most of the time. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Disck III rocks my boat!
I love creeping my friends out with The Human Body. New World is funky and also thought-provoking. Face Down is one of his best ever songs IMO (those strings, that sample... wow!)... I'd love him to do another dark, dance-inspired record like this disc.

Only new fans (or folks w/ little taste) can claim this album as a favorite. It's got some nice moments but overall it's a weak album & doesn't hold up over time w/ all that fake ass instrumentation. PLEEZE...
