What do you all reckon - does Prince still cares about awards, with so many under his belt?
I reckon this changes over the years - for some years, he probably didn't give a toss, while now I feel it matters to him again (get recognition, see his big hits tour and his most commercial album in years)

African-American artists always feel kinda priveleged to get a NAACP award...except for that R Kelly being nominated fiasco a few years ago, NAACP awards are usually pretty rock solid. I remember when Prince performed "Emancipation" on there a few years ago..it was well received. Vanessa Williams received an award not too-too far removed from the Miss America scandal, and was in tears...very moving. you look better on your facebook page than you do in person

NAACP IMAGE AWARD- WHAT A JOKE! LIKE THEY REALLY KNOW ABOUT MUSIC.I WONDER HOW P AWARDS HE WOULD GET IF HE DIDN'T SUPPORT THEM. I LOVE PRINCE AND ALL BUT I SOMETIMES QUESTION HIS ACTIONS. I LIKED IT BETTER WHEN HIS RACE WASN'T SUCH A ISSUE WITH HIMSELF.I MEAN YOU'RE PART BLACK AND YOU'RE PROUD OF IT, I GET IT. EVERY NOW AND THEN IT'S ALRIGHT BUT I HAVE LISTENED TO HIM SINCE I WAS 9 AND I'M 31 NOW.WHY DOESN'T HE EVER TALK ABOUT HIS OTHER RACE IN HIM. I REALLY DON'T CARE TO MUCH FOR THE NAACP, I GUESS THEY ARE TO LEFT WING FOR MY TASTE. I GUESS P MAN IS TOO.BUT I CAN'T TOUCH HIS SUPERIOR ABLITY TO MAKE MUSIC FOR THE MANY.I RESPECT THE REAL MUSIC AWARD SHOWS LIKE BILLBOARD,AMERICAN MUSIC,AND THE GRAMMYS TO CARE ANYTHING ABOUT A STUPID NAACP AWARD.I'LL WATCH JUST TO SEE HIM LIKE I DID THE LAST TIME THOUGH. PEACE AND B WILD!

First, you can stop yelling. Second, P is black. Plain and simple. Third, what in the world is wrong with a person growing or maturing? So he actually has pointed out that he is black. So what? Isn't it about the music? He could actually be purple for all I care. Finally, how are the NAACP Awards not a real music award in comparison to the others you kindly mentioned? I am MrVictor....

Someone said that a drop is all it takes. I'm mixed as well, I'm creole(french, black, ad indian.) White people sure as hell don't think I'm white...Indians sure as hell don't take me as one of their own...Hell, it's even hard sometime to get black people to accept me, with all that other stuff around...If P wrote a song about being white...white people (in general) would say "what U talkin' 'bout Willis"...this is from personal experience. U dismiss the NAACP awards, that's fine, U have the right to do that. I'm going to dismiss the billboards, I have that right. I feel they're worthless. They should pass the awards out to the people in the marketing department instead of the artist, cuz that's what it's a measure of, marketing. DAMN...I FORGOT TO YELL...

The thing is, I wish it was gonna b shown over here in the UK, but the stupid, f.....g, niave Brits havent got a clue who the NAACP are!!! We dont have any organisation like that over here(not 2 my knowledge anyway) 2 champion the causes for the Anglo/African community, like the NAACP do for the African/American community in the USA!!
I maybe a white British girl, but I feel very much akin 2 the blacks!!!

Re: Grammy's being one of the "real music awards".
They have given out a number of awards to people that have very little to do with music or musicianship. They have given out awards to artists that aren't even in the correct category (Jethro Tull, anyone?). They have used part of their airtime to bash those that download music, and they remain two steps behind in all things music. The Grammy's have less value with each passing day, and they only have themselves to blame. I am just sayin'..... Regarding Prince- he seems to be unique in that he has better control over his exposure and mainstream popularity than most any other artist out there. It is almost as impressive as his musicianship. Just my 2 cents..... Peace, Soulflyer.

WHAT PEOPLE CAN'T HAVE OPINIONS HERE? I REALLY DON'T THINK YA'LL UNDERSTAND. THIS AIN'T ABOUT GROWING AND MATURING. THIS IS ABOUT MONEY IT BRINGS TO THOSE NOT REALLY NEEDING IT. I SEE BLACK PEOPLE HERE IN MY CITY EVERYDAY AND I HAVE TO DEAL WITH ALOT OF THEM. NOT ONCE,NOT ONCE DID I EVER HEAR ANY OF THEM SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE NAACP HELPING THEM.THE NAACP IS A COMPANY,A SHOW JUST LIKE ALOT OF CHARITYS RIGHT NOW TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE DISASTER IN ASIA. MY BEEF IS WITH THE GREED.YOU LOOK AT THEIR WEBSITE AND I DON'T SEE ANY OF THEM PEOPLE HURTING.UNLESS YOU GIVE MONEY TO THIS SO CALLED ORGANIZATION YOU AIN'T GUNNA BE HEARD.BUG IT I SUPPORTED THE MAN PRINCE FOR A LONG TIME AND STILL DO ON ALOT OF ISSUES.HE NOT JUST BLACK,HE IS PERSON THAT HAS THE ABLITY TO BRING TOGETHER PEOPLE. I WON'T FOLLOW HIM WHERE I THINK IT WON'T HELP THE MASSES. DEMOCRATS AND LIBERALS FALL TO THE NAACP'S SIDE FOR A VOTE. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT? THIS IS POLITCAL AND IT ONLY HELPS THE CEOS AND PRESIDENTS CHALKING UP THIS BOARD. I HEAR WHAT YA'LL ARE SAYING. I JUST DON'T AGREE,GIVE MONEY TO A SCHOOL LIKE HE DID IN MN.NAACP REACH ACROSS THE FENCE AND SHOW YOU CARE MORE THAN YOURSELF. PRINCE USED TO WORK BOTH SIDES NOW IT SEEMS HE ONLY STAYS ON HIS. WHATEVER YO I'M STILL LISTENING. I DID, I DID SAY IT. SHIT SOMEONE HAD TO.

i think one of my cyber-eardrums has gone dead because of dude's yellin up there. in any case, you really need to do some homework about what the naacp's about (and perhaps a little about the african-american race, for that matter) instead of being so closed-minded about it. you'll be surprised at what you can find out. not everything is done for political gain.

You are trying to make it a racial thing by me saying that I have to deal with black people and that is so far from the truth. And actually it is a chore what I do, I have to do it. When I'm at work I meet with different people everyday, some good and some bad. Don't have an impact on society? I don' know where you got that but that's ok.
