In one of the more recent interviews he stated that he in fact would like to see remastered CD versions of his 80s albums, but WB isn't interested releasing such at the moment.

confuse He said that? I can't imagine why WB would be against this!

"Tell them that we need to bring them to the industry standard!" When an interviewer proposed the idea to him. Warner's probably wouldn't do it cause it just simply isn't on their current task list.

...Lot of contradictions from WB and Prince camp !! ....C...by yourself!
Remasters a step closer?????

Audio Fidelity is a record company that specializes in audiophile versions of classic titles (check out their vintage Bob Marley SACD... killer!). AF is run by Marshall Blonstein, who has worked for many record labels in the past and was the president of DCC, who specialized in 24 karat Gold CDs in the 90s.

The AF message board solicits suggestions for future reissues. Since AF has been concentrating on hybrid SACDs, Marshall hasn't had as much luck licensing titles from the major record companies as he did at DCC. With the gold discs, they were able to mark up the price for an audiophile edition ($30 list back then) so that it wouldn't compete with the major label version. Their SACDs were lower in price, so it was very difficult to find good titles that were profitable. So they've started up the 24k gold discs again in hopes that they can license better titles (and it looks like the prices won't be too high either).

What does this have to do with Prince? A recent request for Prince at the AF message board received this response from Marshall:

"Prince is out of the mix. I spoke to WB today and they are redoing his whole catalog so this is a no."

For someone that doesn't like to live in the past, he sure doesn't practice what he preaches. The song "Musicology" is pure 1970s James Brown style.

see, i have that problem with him, too. he's all about living in the everlasting now and moving forward into the future, yadda yadda yadda, yet 'musicology' was all about how great the old skool is, and then there's 'reflection', and the whole concept of the concert being like a classic soul revue. not that i'm complaining - i loved all that stuff - but when the conversation turns to his OWN old stuff, it's all about how we shouldn't dwell in the past and all that. well, okay. but if he can dwell in james brown's past, why can't we dwell in prince's? minor nit, but i don't think it's an insignificant nit in the least.

Hmmmm... I can never forget reading the interview in Entertainment Weekly where Prince condemned other artists for "sampling music". He stated he wrote everything he ever released - and I about choked. We know that Betcha by Golly Wow was a hit way before Prince could drool. Everyday is a Winding Road (unless he penned it) was a hit with out him. So why would rehash his past when he could do others?

No seriously, Prince could like so re-work that New Power Soul - scrap everything but Wasted Kisses, Freaks on this Side, and the One. The Rainbow Children could be done to murder a lot more vocals and extend those awesome sychodelic guitar rifts.

I would like a remastered copy of Purple Rain with all the singles, remixes, and outtakes. This includes performances by other artists. Ooooohhhh the Hall-way version of Computer Blues; the full-version of 17 Days and Another Lonely Christmas. Oh, gosh, I am getting the vapors.
