Prince has been nominated for 2 Awards at this years NAACP Image Awards Ceremony, one for Outstanding Male Artist and another for Outstanding Album!!

The show will b taped on Saturday March 19th, and it will b actually aired on Friday March 25th

What do you all reckon - does Prince still cares about awards, with so many under his belt?

I reckon this changes over the years - for some years, he probably didn't give a toss, while now I feel it matters to him again (get recognition, see his big hits tour and his most commercial album in years)

African-American artists always feel kinda priveleged to get a NAACP award...except for that R Kelly being nominated fiasco a few years ago, NAACP awards are usually pretty rock solid. I remember when Prince performed "Emancipation" on there a few years ago..it was well received. Vanessa Williams received an award not too-too far removed from the Miss America scandal, and was in tears...very moving.

Re: Grammy's being one of the "real music awards".

They have given out a number of awards to people that have very little to do with music or musicianship. They have given out awards to artists that aren't even in the correct category (Jethro Tull, anyone?). They have used part of their airtime to bash those that download music, and they remain two steps behind in all things music. The Grammy's have less value with each passing day, and they only have themselves to blame. I am just sayin'.....

Regarding Prince- he seems to be unique in that he has better control over his exposure and mainstream popularity than most any other artist out there. It is almost as impressive as his musicianship.

Just my 2 cents.....

i think one of my cyber-eardrums has gone dead because of dude's yellin up there. in any case, you really need to do some homework about what the naacp's about (and perhaps a little about the african-american race, for that matter) instead of being so closed-minded about it. you'll be surprised at what you can find out. not everything is done for political gain.
