The Diamonds and Pearls videos.....a great time for Prince! In the "cream: 10 minute version, I actually really dig the train station scene. It sorta reminds me that Prince really was big at that time. With the girls looking at his pics on a magazine cover and all. Good vibes by whole band on that video. Maybe they knew song was gonna blow up huge!!
Infact, the "diamonds and pearls" video collection reminds u at the very start of the vid how big Prince was back in 1991. Good nostalgia 4 me is all I'm saying. Those 2 guys who follow diamond and pearl r funny. With their silly dancing and pretend machoness (?) Why is Rosie hanging with Tony, Damon and Kirk though. She musta been real happy acting with them in the hairsalon. Whole thing is fun to watch once in a while..... the song itself is awesome. Great choreography This and the "daimonds and pearls" video itself and the hugley popular "gett off" maxi single video collection seem to be just a row of great videos and what seems to be a great time 4 Prince and NPG. They look on top of the world. With the MTV awards, Arsenio hall show etc..I loved that time. it was good t be a Prince fan. I miss that period of Prince sometimes..... NouveauDance said: yeah, i was watching that the other day. hadn't seen it in alot of years.....seems like a completely different Prince. Heck, even the "strollin'" video (which gets faded annoyingly) was good. "call the law" vid is superb. Tommy B looking gangster is a sight 4 sore eyes and throat I'll tell ya. How did Tony manage to rope him into the video I don't know? U only c Tommy looking cool 4 a few seconds though. So watch closely, it is hilarious | |

Yeah, Prince was huge during that time. But I also think he was at his least creative. I am not a big fan of D&P. It just seemed like he was a little too commercial even more so than the Purple Rain era even though that was his most successful time. He was everywear during '91 but his music was good but safe. | |

I hated the videos. I hated the album. I hated his Sybil Fawlty hairstyle. I hate 'Cream'. The videos all look unintentionally cheap.
I hate Rosie fucking Gaines! | |

----- Has it not occured to any of you that P has to sell CD's just like any other artist. No sells no recording contract. I doubt that Sony would have done this distribution deal if Musicology wasn't commercial. | |

I hate Rosie fucking Gaines! You hate Rosie Gaines?! I think she has an amazing voice. I wish like hell he would have used her intead of Candy Dulfer for Musicology. I liked those videos mentioned, though. Cream was sexy. | |

It might sound safe and uncreative now, but at the time it was a radical new sound and look for Prince. I read a magazine talking about the 'Gett Off' original cd sent to only radio djs - they were saying you would never hear this song on the radio because of the racy lyrics - but not long after of course it was a massive hit! Cream was just as risque. When Diamonds and Pearls came out I had friends who hated Prince but grudgingly admitted it was a beautiful song. I read a review that said something like 'Rosie Gaines soulful vocals wrap around Prince's like interwining flowers' or something like that. Prince sharing vocals with band members was quite new - it did feel like Prince had a whole new outlook on his music. I would still argue that Prince was still very creative during this period and just happened to be successful as well, and why not? | |
