2 reasons people could make fun of Kenny Rogers:
A: Kenny Rogers & The First Edition. They were considered a light-weight, almost corny pop group & did't garner much respect.
B: Kenny Rogers solo career. He sings mostly C&W and that's also considered corny. He has the stank of Hee Haw on him.

That seems to be enough for most people.

I like Kenny Rogers:) Favorite songs are "She Believes In Me","You Decorated My Life" and "Lady"(written by Lionel Ritchie).Yes,Prince did give Kenny a song "You're My Love" in 1986.
