I've been pondereing Rasberrey Beret in recent. I didnn't knwo a Beret was a hat.

So I'm now stuck on pondering just what a 2nd hand store is? A dollar store, flea market, pawn shop?

it's like a resale shop - a thrift store...kinda like a salvation army shop or something.

The only Prince-related things I ever see in second hand stores are copies of NPS. Many, many of them usually.

I think what Prince is trying to imply with this line, that berets are/were unfashionable and so were the type of clothing that ended up in used clothing stores - implying the girl in the song wasn't ashamed to buy her clothing at such a shop, and had an individual, kooky sense of style, unafraid to wear whatever she thinks looks good whether it's in fashion or not.

That single line helps define the character of the girl and why Prince is attracted to her - she's an independent, strong-minded woman.

Or am I reading too much into it?

A beret is a hat worn in the army. You can buy those at army-stores, second hand stores (second hand clothing) or dump stores. Those are all shops where you can buy clothes for low prices, mainly cause they are worn before.
