yep, I have it. Bob Belden plays Prince.
It's ok, nothing spectacular. I'm not a big fan of new jazz being called jazz anyway.

yeah it's like that earthy jazz - Cassandra Wilson is on it. plus there's a few dodgy covers like that Jimi Tunnell dude. but it is worth getting just for Holly Cole and Cassandra Wilson

These are tracks culled from the 2 releases. They are quite good, though. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Wait a minute. How did Power Fantastic get in there? Isn't it officially unreleased? I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

I've heard some of them...the listinible one I know are Kiss and The ? Of U. I'm gonna get flammed but I ALMOST like this version of kiss better than prince's...but not quite. It is its own version. The ? Of U sounds very Billie Hollidayish.
I had Bob Belden When Doves cry a while ago but it got stolen. I just recently bought it on the internet for 95 cents plus shipping...it was like a total of 3 bucks! [Edited 12/20/04 17:25pm]

Anyone seeking a Prince tribute album that's actually worthwhile would do well to seek out "sexykinkyjazzysmooth", put out in 2001 by vitamin records.
Several tracks have vocals (a couple by Soloman Burke Jr.)and are reinterprted wonderfully: "Purple Rain" as a joyous, rocking mid-tempo rave-up, and "Pop Life" is slow, lovely, melancholy. "Letitgo" and "Anothloverholeinyohead" are rendered as striaghtforward bluesy rockers. Of the instrumentals, "Delirious" is be-bop jazz, and "Adore" is smoldering, dominated by keyboards. Also featured: "Girls and Boys" "seven" "when Doves Cry" "rock hard in a Funky Place" "hot Thing" and "little Red Corvette".

I have this CD. It is pretty good. Oh yea, and it is not instrumental, there are vocals. I think I am up to about ten Prince tribute CD's. I'll have to take a look and make up a list.

"Electric Chair"? Is that your final tracklisting? Why not! I wonder if this was the Blue Note album that got a slight mention in the press during "Musicology" (it was hinted to be a Prince instrumental album, like "N.E.W.S").

Hell. The only name I recognize is Cassandra Wilson....and Dorothy Parker. I'm not very knowledable about jazz (which is the reason I don't own much) but I'll check out this collection.

Tribute albums are a nice gesture but
I'd never buy one unless it was actually, good If you will, so will I

This cd seems to be a compilation of two Belden cds devoted to Prince. I am glad they have left off some of the weakest tracks of the first Belden cd, which I own, especially since these other tracks must be from the second cd, which I don't own and was available in Japan last time I checked (years ago).`
The first cd is about half good and a definite crowd pleaser, especially Kiss, When Doves Cry and The Question of U. I liked 1999, though the song is barely recognizable. There's a version of Purple Rain they left off that wasn't half bad.

I don't think so because Prince spoke of the planned release as his own record and he does not have any involvement in the Belden project.

And don't even take my word for it: scroll down and listen to the first minute of each song!
