"Welcome 2 the dawn" - what did he mean? Prince talked alot about the "dawn" in the 80's what was the meaning? Did we ever get a clear answer?
Didn't he say there was going to be a movie made on this subject at one point? was that Graffitti Bridge? I found this other thread with a similar question but no real answers: http://www.prince.org/msg...&tid=11078 [This message was edited Sat Apr 20 7:45:43 PDT 2002 by speculator3m]

I think that in the beginning, "may u live 2 see the dawn" was just a cool thing to put on the albums (kinda like "make love not war" or "peace, and be wild"). I don't think it had anything to do with WB or his own creative direction.
I think when the whole WB battle and name change happened, he then used a variation "the dawn" phrase to signify a definite change. Maybe he felt that he was now free and could really break loose and release everything he wanted. This battle with WB lasted the better part of the '90's and we never really saw the promise of "the dawn". From what I've heard over the years, The Dawn was supposed to be Prince's ultimate album. He even mentioned that there were a few songs for Emancipation that he left off, saying they were too good for that album and he was saving them for The Dawn. Whether or not this is true, I don't know. Some people think The Rainbow Children was The Dawn. I hope not. I think The Dawn will come out much later, after he re-establishes himself as "Prince" and shakes off the stigma of the '90's theatrics. Wouldn't it be great if "The Dawn" turns out to be as good as SOTT or Purple Rain?

the Movie "The Dawn" was renamed "3 Chains O Gold"
I saw a pre-concert promo for The Dawn and it was clips of what became the 3 Chains video. Enivri,

In 1989,Prince and his then-manager Albert Magnoli announced four upcoming movies that they would co-produce together. The four films were....
***'Graffiti Bridge'---described as a sequel to 'Purple Rain' ***'The Dark Side Of The Moon'---a documentary on Prince's career. ***'The Robert Johnson Story'---a movie about the famous blues musician from the 30s. ***'The Dawn'---described as a street-oriented follow-up to 'Graffiti Bridge' So,it's likely that 'The Dawn' was meant to be a sequel to 'GB'.Obviously, since 'GB' flopped, all plans for a sequel were cancelled.Still don't know what happened to the other planned films. Prince had actually been planning a movie called 'The Dawn' since the mid-80s.Three tunes were recorded for the planned soundtrack...."Crucual","Coco Boys" and "When The Dawn of the Morning Comes". In a 1996 Rolling Stone interview,Prince mentioned an upcoming album called 'The Dawn' that he was working on.He warned that "the world ain't ready for this one yet".So,it's likely that a future project titlted 'The Dawn' will still be released one day.
