Radio stations that play Prince... There aren't many nowadays. However, in Los Angeles, there's KBIG 104.3 that actually plays Prince songs at least 3-4 times a day more than any stations I know in Los Angeles-- songs ranging from Kiss, Little Red Corvette, Raspberry Beret, I Wanna Be Your Lover, The Most Beautiful Girl, I Would Die 4 U, etc. I also hear them play Sheila E. a lot and Chaka Khan's I Feel 4 U. One of the DJ's/programmers must be a Prince fan because they even mentioned this morning that his ONA tour has one more show for Sunday and tickets will be sold this Friday (I guess the DJ didn't get the new yet that it has been cancelled) and even promoted the NPG Music Club. Quite surprised!!! The station's format is they play music from '80s, '90's and today's hits and play's '70's during lunch hour. It's great to have found this radio station. I listen to it all day at work. I was wondering if any of you has encountered this where you live. Peace!

It's almost like Prince doesn't exist out here in Seattle... I've been here 4 2 years, and haven't heard ANY Prince being played. No stores carry his music (except Tower and Best Buy)...Coming from Chicago, this was quite a shock. Occupy Alphabet Street!

I went to Chicago a year ago and they actually played Erotic City at a club and it wasn't old school night. Is Chicago the craziest Prince town still? ______________________________________________

Try living in North Carolina. They very rarely play his stuff on the classic rock stations. We have several that say they play hits from the 80s 90s and today but they don't play Prince. How can that be?!!!? I tried calling in a request for Little Red Corvette to one of thier request lines and they never played it. I just carry my CD collection with me everywhere.

Today in Denver on 105.9 they played 1999 during their lost 80s lunch hour and it was played again later on another station. I wonder if the general public really believes Prince has stopped making music. It's sad, no?

I live in Holland, and here we have a station called 3FM. You probably have heard from it before, because they are the one's who hyped that 'Osama bin Laden' piece from the Utrecht afterparty.
Anywayz, that station often plays Prince music. They play like one Prince song a day....and not only Prince, but also Sheila E, The Time, Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6. Some time ago they even aired a 10 min (I think) Prince-remix. So, they're much into Prince. They gave Candy Dulfer a call when they heard she would again tour with Prince, and when they got her father on the phone. Thay asked him all about that Utrecht aftershow, and if he had ever spoken to Prince after that. He said that Prince had given him a bible recently. He never read it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
....and remember: Members get to hear it last

In DC, I'd say 96.3 WHUR www.whur.com always has shown bookoo love for Prince including 'Wasted Kisses' and this new 'Strange Relationship' from ONA, where he goes "Rhonda, you killin me with dat bass!" over and over. They also play him during their Slow Jam Show pretty often.
Also, you're likely to hear Prince on KYS (no official website but try http://www.uptoparr.com/ tho not as much as in the old days when they had a different owner. Also WPGC 95.5, http://www.wpgc955.com/index.shtml especially when Donnie Simpson http://www.wpgc955.com/ne...nnie.shtml is on, tho he always plays Purple Rain stuff and that's it! With his connections we could be hearing all this current live stuff like nuthin! Buthe wont do it! He also plays The Time occasionally. MAJIC 102.3 (no website) also will play Prince on occasion and esp during their Slow Jam show too. The Time will be on The Tom Joyner Morning Skyshow on Friday April 19th http://www.tomjoyner.com/...tshow.html My tape will be rollin! peace!

It's not hard at all to find 80s formatted stations or "Old School" stations in America that play Prince's old music. Of course now that he's independent there's not much chance of hearing his newer material because it's not paid for by any record company to saturate the airwaves.
Prince, the man and his career, is complex. There were things that happened in his career back in the 90s (even when he was still with WB) that made it harder for his music to be featured on mainstream radio. But the old stuff is still being played. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

They also play Mellow from TRC sometimes and The Greatest Romance Ever Sold Also WPGC 95.5, http://www.wpgc955.com/index.shtml especially when Donnie Simpson http://www.wpgc955.com/ne...nnie.shtml is on, tho he always plays Purple Rain stuff and that's it! Donnie used to play whatever Prince cuts he wanted and this was only like 2 years ago. Sure Donnie is PR fan but he would play stuff like Theives in The Temple, Adore, Controversy, every now and then too. He's played "Shhhh" and TMBGITW within the last 4 months. But, the program director of his show is only interestd in playing the songs that they are paid to play by the record companies. and Prince isn't on that list. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll play it first and tell you what it is later. -Miles Davis-

Here in the Bay Area, you can hear old Prince songs on KISS-FM ( a few of their DJS,Morris Knight and Lisa St.Regis, are HUGE Prince fans). But,as for his new songs, forget it.KMEL,KYLD and KDON pretty much ignore him, except for when he comes to town for a concert. Then they kiss his ass and act like they've been supporting him all along:)

Here in the UK there are very few radio stations that play Prince anymore. The national radio station DJ's used to have their own preferences but today all is dominated by corporate playlists.
On BBC Radio 1 Mark Goodier used to champion Prince (now he only does the chart rundown show), I heard him play White Mansion and I Can't Make U Love Me (inc a comparison with George Michael's cover) when Emancipation came out. Chris Evans had a spell of playing Prince tunes, If I Was Your Girlfriend and Dinner With Delores spring to mind. Steve Wright used to kick off his afternoon show in the late eighties with Sheila E and Prince's Belle of St. Mark. Collins and Maconie (music journalists/presenters loved Gold, and that made their songs of the year rundown in 1995/6) On BBC Radio 2, Mica Paris had her own show a litte while back and played TRC tracks (previously reported here on the org). In my local area there is a commercial station called Wave FM which seems to play Kiss, TMBGITW, and When Doves Cry on a regular basis. Any other experiences from the UK? Just somewhere in the middle,

Apparently, the KBIG 104.3 DJ hasn't been informed yet of the 3rd Prince concert date cancellation for Sunday at the Kodak Theater. Just before he played I Would Die 4 U, he said tickets will go on sale tomorrow Friday for the Sunday show. Unless, I'm the one who's misinformed... "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Here in Dallas, I have heard the most Prince music played on KRNB 105.7. I have heard some pretty obscure P trax like God, Irresistable B****, Scarlett P****, and other trax you might not hear on the radio. When Prince comes to town, they tend to get happy (also on his b-day).
Otherwise...the only P music I hear are the CDs I have.... ______________________________________

Ifsixwaz9, you are right and thanks, HUR also has been playing, Mellow and they def gave play to The Greates Romance alot!
About Donnie, when he was on the old 93.9 WKYS back in the day, we would hear so much Prince, I think he was also either Program Director or Music Director there too at one point, so I'm sure that helped! Even tho he has to answer to the PD at PGC, I feel like with his experience and the mileage he has put in, in the biz plus his Minneapolis LaFace, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis connections and overall connections in the biz, he could be running that whole show the way he wants, instead its the same ole hip hop junk and gangsta stuff and booty stuff all morning and really all day cuz that is the format of the station. To me, its almost a joke to have him in that type of format. With his influence he 's one of the veteran jocks I think who still could say "Look, enough is enough, I dont care what direction the music has been going into! We arent going to play this negative stuff." But instead he just goes with the flow and gest paid his 2 million. Yeah you're right the program director is working from a limited list too, so it all really stinks to me. Some of those songs they play in the morning Im going "What!? At six am?! That song?! Whoa!" So is comercial radio today, subpar programming, owned by the big corporates who r outta the loop, and giving people what they want them, to whether they want it or not. peace!
