man prince peformance in the years 1998 till end of 1999 were pretty lame.he had moments even in those times.
i am bothered how lame was his guitar playing in that period.
i just couldnt belive that guy who played just my imagination, undertaker, sacrfise of victor was the same guy who played on rave 2000 show.
but he improved very much in latter part of 2000.
from that time he started playing guitar like a gritty axe man and i absolutely adore it.

eek
Hearing it is one thing - but you gotta WATCH it for the whole experience. The guitar on Motherless Child is THE highlight of the piss-poor 'Rave' promotion over-load.

Forget the jumper and watch him play.

The Motherless Child solo is pretty cool, but I always laugh at Larry Graham and Mike Scott doing that stupid "guitar hop" from one side of the stage to the other lol. It's like something out of "Back To The Future"! Actually the whole show is kind of strage. Prince's performance is great, but he seems agitated or pissed off or something.

i'd like to think that this era will one day surface as somehow interesting or vital or that maybe one day i'll appreciate the whole NPS/RAVE era in a way i never did before (as i have recently with the come/gold era stuff, BIGtime), but i don't see it happening...everything i see or hear is lackluster, with maybe a bit of good songwriting here or there (come on, beautiful strange, the reworked man'o'war, etc.). watching some of those shows from around that time can just get depressing sometimes.

I think the performance of Motherless Child is fantastic, it is sung very passionately and the guitar soloing is amazing. The background drums are Love Thy Will Be Done are they not?

I think the rest of the performance, The Jam and Prettyman, are nowhere near as cool as Motherless Child. I think people are put off this performance because of the bizarre jumper Prince was wearing - something like he's never worn before or since!

Not to jump on the whole hating Larry Graham bandwagon, but around this time it seems he was toning down his performances to keep in light with his new beliefs. It must have been quite a change for Prince to stop swearing and letting go like a madman on stage! I think it took him a while to adapt his stage shows to a more, let's say, mature image.

The jumper was cool. I thought it was quite stylish, Tom Fordish even. I should know, I was never allowed to enter the fashion design school.

I didn't got the show, but have heard a lot about it. And Prince was agitated and pissed off, because of conflicts with the organizators before the performance.
Sure it is someone there who can inform you closer.

Yes, it has been said P had a tiff with the producers of the show regarding the way the sound of the performance was mixed, which initially wasn't to P's satisfaction. The timely instigation of Miguel Bose, someone with a deep respect for Prince, meant this glitch was promptly sorted out and the later Septimo broadcast was hunky dory.

The real reason P seemed agitated was to do with Pedro Almodovar, who was scheduled to conduct an interview with P. Unfortunately Almodovar was at his gloriously campest best and made some off the cuff assumptions about P's lifestyle, but P wasn't in the mood for what he perceived to be Almodovar's seeming lack of respect for his religious stance on certain issues. It didn't help that, at this point, Almodovar seemed to be oblivious about P's relatively new-found beliefs.

Therefore the interview never took place.

Hey, is the boot of Mill City any good?I saw it on DVD recently-which was ok at best--but even more so, I saw the CD a few months ago at a convention.
Reason i ask is I was there amongst the 40,000 "raucous" fans and I couldnt imagine a good spot to have recorded it from...just wondering
thanks for any info

Mill City probably carries a better live version of "Motherless Child" compared to the angry Septimo performance. The guitar work is decidedly more varied and imaginative. There is even a melodic guitar portion on it that resembles "Living In America", a fake track on a boot called "Rude Boy", which is wrongly attributed to Prince! biggrin

And yes, the sound quality on Mill City is not as bad as you'd expect. I would say it's a worthwhile boot to go for.
