Hmmmm, I find it hard to compare them even tho they share some simularitys !!
I myself are more in to Prince..... But, much respect for mr. Bowie and by only influence he might just beat mr. Nelson. Futuristic Fantasy

i'm a big fan of Bowie. i think there are so many parallels between him in the 70's and Prince in the 80's. from the challenging albums to the lavish stage shows, alter egos etc. and they both had their 'darker phase' (Bowie with the Berlin era, Prince with Sign, Black Album).
i think they're both a big influence on anyone who cares remotely for music as art rather than craft. both seem to just live and breathe creativity, and through the sheer surge of ideas pouring out of them both have fucked up on occasion. for me it just adds to the flawed genius mystique. i'd hold them in equal regard as far as influence goes. both for different reasons. Definatly Prince is more talented in my opinion. Bowie has some songs I like but Prince consistantly writes songs that connect me emotionaly.

Like Fhunkin said, I find it hard to compare them though they do have similarities. I'm more familiar with Prince, but I'd have to say they're equals. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I like the FUNK much better than the Glam-Rock ... but I have to say that Bowie's music is more important historically .... Ziggy Stardust is more classic than Purple Rain too

I never got into Bowie, and I tried, I listened to lots of is stuff, ranging his entire career, I really tried, I just couldn't get into it that much past a few tracks.
I respect he's a fantastic artist, just not for me.

I like Prince better, but historicaly speaking I guess Bowie's still a bit bigger..The guy's got more talents most people don't know of..(If any Prince fan doubts this:Bowie CAN play the sax and he's defenitely a better actor than Prince is!!)

As far as the androgenous look, I think David Bowie took what Little Richard started to the next level. I think this look influenced Prince, Sylvester, and all the androgeny that was going on in the 1970s and 1980s. Andy is a four letter word.
