The songs are pretty good too, especially the 2 ballads, tghe remake of didnt mean to turn you on, and the rick james song. The worst part was the writing/dialog and direction. U are kidding right? Mariah pretending to be bashful during the video shoot scene was truly aweful. NO I am NOT kidding. I think Mariah was pretty good. Several reviews said the same thing. It was her first major acting role. Compare it say Apple's acting in Purple Rain (or basically ANYONE's acting in Purple Rain with the exception of Morris, Jerome and the father). Again, the problem was the writing and the direction. The director was inept. He's really an actor from ER or Chicago Hope. On the DVD commentary, he doesn't even remember the actress who played Billie's mother, or the name of the songs on the album. Way to really know your material.

"8 Mile" was "Purple Rain" with an uglier cast and semi-decent songs, but it had a better script and much better actors.
"Glitter" was shit. Period. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

I think that 8MILE was a very good "music" film. I think that it sits right near Purple Rain as one of the most intriguing of all time. Very real, very believable film with memorable moments.

Never saw it so I can't judge. But I think Purple Rain is much better than some people give it credit for being. The problem I have with PR is the kiss scenes (aweful), and the last scene where he's up on stage staring at everybody before the song actually starts--that shit was sooooo melodramatic. But, oh well--it's Prince
