What do you want from Prince's next album?

Okay, he proved to everyone he can still have a hit record. Big deal. I don't think many of us really cared all that much for a hit record anyway.

I'm talking musically... what do you want from his next album?

I'd love to see something a little funkier. I don't think he's done much in the way of funk since New Power Soul (with the exclusion of about three songs from The Rainbow Children, which were far too overtly preachey for me to really dig!).

I miss the energy of songs like "Hello". I miss the bad-ass funk of tracks like "Bob George" and "Escape".

I'm not one of these fans who believes that Prince hasn't done anything remotely interesting since Lovesexy, but I have felt a little deprived of the funk in the last few years...

And I know that Life O The Freakin' Party ain't where the funks at!

Something that has songs that sound like Bambi, Head, Kiss, Joy In Repetition, When U Were Mine, Empty Room, Sometimes it Snows in April, The Beautiful Ones or Adore. Or the equivalent.

Too much to ask?

nod nod nod Totally agree! That's what I want, too!!!

And I think he could still do it if he felt like it. I just don't think he feels like it anymore. shrug I think his energies are focused elsewhere these days.

you freakin' rule. lol

i would love to see him do something moody with lots of detail and texture and atmosphere - something kinda tense and funky and blue and dark - i like it that he's refining as an artist...dude's getting old, i don't wanna see him in bikini pants or jerkin' off his guitar anymore ill ...but i think he can lay down something that can show his fans - and music lovers in general - that he's not fooling around. i'd like to see him transcend the influences of his immediate surroundings - don't try to slang, no lyrics about current TV shows or pop stars, and please - STEP AWAY FROM THE LARRY...and for him to pull out something from the deep insides of his imagination and soul, the way he certainly did with albums like lovesexy. mind you, i don't want another lovesexy album...i'd just love to have an album with that kind of idiosynchratic spark.

Cold, hard, dark, futuristic funk/rock with no traces of horns, jazz, hip hop, orchestras, folk, or any other "creative" nonsense. Just cold, hard, ass kicking funk/rock without a care.

Of course, that's not going to happen, but that's what I want.

Funk!Funk!Funk! I love the synthesiers too but I know it might sound kinda dated now. But I hope he goes more in the direction of New Power Soul again ( or takes it to the next level) I really love that album, And you are right about P fans not caring if he has another hit record again, I wouldn't care if he never became popular in mainstream media again. I just want him to keep putting out great music! headbang

I'd love The Return Of Camille, an album of dirty synthfunk, scratch guitars, big fat beats, and Prince as Camille on vocals.

But since that might be a little unrealistic, I settle for Prince & The Clare Fischer Orchestra, filled with inspired songwriting, beautiful orchestral stuff and Prince delivering his greatest vocals ever. It could even be back-catalogue Prince songs, although I would prefer all new material.

I just want it to live up to Prince's potential and the potential of modern music. His arrangements have turned me off for a good decade now. The sounds are a little raw for me, and I don't need a studio album to sound like it's live. He seems to take his view of "canned music" into the studio with him, and personally, I like something slicker if I'm going to buy it and own it for years. That doesn't mean he has to rely on synths either. I wish he'd go for a tighter sound like Jamiroquai has. And better songs! Musicology was a dull single for me. I'd rather hear Bridging the Gap by Nas and his father if I want a slamming music lesson.
