I think it's the worst album he ever did....but it does make a nice coaster... Top 3 of 90's albums; 1. Come 2. The Gold Expierence 3. Crystal Ball I dont care what enybody say, Chaos & Disorder rocks! I always loved that album. I like that album better then Emancipation. Crystal Ball was half assed (with lots of remixs). Well, let's do a simple rundown of his basic 90's releases.
Graffiti Bridge-His songs are absolutely brilliant, particularly The Question of U, but I really can't stand the music of The Time, so the guest spots tarnish this one for me. My Rating: ***1/2 (all ratings out of 5) Diamonds and Pearls-Contains a few classics, but Tony M.'s presence here is simply unbearable. My Rating: ***  -Overblown and somewhat pretentious, but you can't deny that this album contained some true classics from an artist still capable of brilliant songwriting.
My Rating: *** Come-Mysterious, twisted, sexy, dark, introspective, revealing, but somewhat disappointly short in its amount of songs. If only expanded, this could've been a masterpiece. My Rating: ***1/2 Chaos and Disorder-It's definitely too unpolished to be a great album, but I feel it has a certain rugged, bitter charm to it. I like its energetic anger. A fun rock album, if nothing more. My Rating: *** The Gold Experience-An unexpected masterpiece. Ambitious, urgent, full of charming attitude and sleek sensuality, political insight, a smart self-awareness, and absolutely heart stopping guitar. Contains plenty of classics and remains consistent throughout. Overall, a fantastic mix of lightearted pop ingenuity and meaningful insight. Truly the Purple Rain of the 90's. My Rating: ****1/2 Emancipation-Overambitious, yes, but an example of his, at this time, still brilliant ability as a recording artist. Contains some of the most romantic songs and beautiful lyrics I've ever discovered, and really sounds like an album Prince believes in. Flawed, but has enough great to make the bad on it forgiveable. In my opinion, his last great album. My Rating: **** The Truth-Honest, vulnerable and touching. A very different album than what you might expect, but effective nonetheless. Still, not the kind of album you'll likely be playing often when it's all said and done. My Rating: *** New Power Soul-Bland, uninspired funk numbers with cold beats and no heart to be found anywhere. This is what an album sounds like when Prince just doesn't care anymore. New Power Soulless is more like it. My Rating: ** Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic-While it still suffers from the overproduction that plagued NPS, it was a reasonably satisfying comeback from such a poor album the year prior. Yes, some annoying songs are once again to be found, but this time around they're eased by some solid pop songwriting and the heartwrenching emotion found in I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore. My Rating: ***1/2 So there you have it. Gold Experience wins it for me by a mile and then some. [Edited 12/25/04 0:49am] The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I enjoyed reading those tid-bits, if only the "official" short reviews found in various discography books would bother to investigate the actual albums before writing anything.
