Just bought a guitar so I could jam with my son. Are there any songbooks avail for newbies like myslef? I have some piano music by prince and that's about it.

you can find a lot of basic beginners books on line.
a good Prince song to start with is The Cross.


Emajor- (from the heaviest string up) open E string,B(middle finger, second fret A string),E (3rd finger, second fret D string), G# (first finger, first fret, G string), and the top 2 strings open.

Asus2- open A string, E (middle finger, second fret, D string), A (third finger, second fret, G string), and the top 2 strings open.

So all you're doing is moving your middle and third finger down a string each on the same fret. Hope that makes sense.

There is a Purple Rain For Easy Guitar book that occasionally turns up on eBay. But it's pretty rare and goes for large amounts.

I would recommend learning "Starfish and Coffee". Four easy chords: A, D, E, A.

It was[A]7:45, we were[D]all in line to[E] greet the teacher Ms. Kath[A]leen, etc.

Perfect to start developin' those callouses.
