Imperator

I've seen P in concert many times but when I read about the "Musicology"-tour and see excerpts from the show I can hardly wait till he's coming to Belgium again. Rumours are that he'll do our country in February or March. My phone is ready to order those tickets!

I can't help but wonder, though, if P didn't end up grossing more "personally" than Madonna did. I'm sure Madonna's label took a nice portion of her ticket sales and I would also bet that she has a larger entourage which equals more money spent.

True,Madonna's tour definitely cost more money to put on.But let's not kid ourselves, she still made a ton of money. All but one show sold out completely, and there was also the $10 million she received from CBS,plus merchanandise sales. So it all evens out.

Don't forget the money Prince made from the initial movie theatre release of the 2nd show (Staples center)

It never aired, but Madonna was still allowed to keep the money. She kept up her end of the bargain by letting them film it,but the two sides couldn't agree on several issues (example: CBS insisted on showing commercials, but Maddy felt that it would ruin the flow of the concert).

Agreed... The 80's are back!

Madonna is cool, but she certainly isn't the genius that P is. Dollar signs don't necessarily spell success, you know. Let's just be happy that the year turned out the way it did and hope for something even close to it in 2005.

Oh I agree. My whole point was,it doesn't really matter which artist made more "personal income" from their tour(let's face it,they're both already filthy rich, even without this year's touring). The REAL cause for celebration is that these two artists---who are often considered "has-beens"---proved that they can still deliver the goods with successful, lucrative tours that even topped the supposedly "hot" artists of today.Instead of pitting Prince against Madonna (as some people in this thread are doing),I'm thrilled that BOTH of them are still doing extremely well.

The Purple One hit the road in '04 and we all had the opportunity to see him do his thang. It doesn't get any better than that!

except for the stray bit of ballsy language, i don't recall anything from the show that would need editing out.

No, he did the gouging of the fans on the LAST tour. Been there, done that.

mr.green

Ain't complaining. I've never been to a Prince show where I didn't think the money was incredibly well-spent. smile

I do think it says something about the quality of live performance among current pop stars that the top acts of the year are people who were at their commercial peaks in the 80s.

But again, ain't complaining. smile

If Prince tickets were as high as Madonna's, maybe his gross ticket sales would've been higher...confuse
