Prince adds another award to the mantle

Prince has been awarded the Digital & Electronic Music Organization's Pioneer Award for his efforts to sell his music online and outside the traditional distribution channels. Prince was ahead of the curve in the now-common practice of selling CDs on the Internet, having released his Crystal Ball box set as an online-only release in 1997.

And Prince should have said:

Yeah, and I wanna thank Prince.org and another group of people that many of y'all don't know about, The New Funk Order, for getting a new movement started and for helping my idea along.

I guess he probably didn't say that tho.

i don't want to start an argument here...but how the hell did newfunkorder contribute to prince being online? i thought you just put other artists music up online? not prince? i mean, do you think your website really helped prince along, and if it didn't exist prince would have had a harder time with each particular stage of his development from crystal ball, npg downloads and now the musicology download store? really?
i mean, i'm not having a go, but i'm confused as to how you could possibly think that

Was Crystal Ball the CD where Prince made it available online only but then when everyone ordered it from him, no one got it? Or no one knew that it was even available at all?
Wasn't that the first CD he made when he split from Warner Bros.?

Also, how many people really do buy CD's online? Or even indie CD's from some place like CD Baby.com?

Well, if you are a person well in tune with the NFO, you would see that thousands of site referrals go from the NFO to the NPGMC. Also, you will notice that of those people who had visited back and forth, the transfers were from download to download, and from hotlink to hotlink. The IP addys were all exact. How do I know? Well.....it's a secret. Anyhow, the NFO pushed Prince and promoted Prince while promoting their own artists- they still do. I just think that the man outta give up some props to them, that's all.

to be honest i'd be fairly surprised if prince knew of the existence of the NFO, and also, i really don't think (no offense) that if the NFO didn't ever exist, the NPGMC would have been affected in the slightest, and if so, you're probably talking, at most, a few hundred people, and nothing close to the 400k+ people that's thought to be a member of the club. know what i mean?

Well, it could be well over that few hundred that you say. When the NFO Project 1 and 2 were released, there were upwards of 10,000 site visitors weekly. In fact, the admin folks over there at NFO had to expand because usage had exceeded limit. Anyhow, yes, I'm sure that the NFO's presence gives Prince promo and sales.

I just think it would be nice for Prince to acknowledge his base, and give them a "right on" every now and then.

It was a great idea, it just wasn't executed properly. There are still people to this day that didn't get their cd.

You have GOT to be kidding!

Please tell me about this. To my understanding, first you were told that the only way you could buy this was online... then it went to the only way you could get all 3 cd's was online. Then I have read it was in the stores before people who ordered online got theirs. Was the full version sold in stores?? and are there still people still waiting, and did you ever get your money back??

Thanks for bringing me up to speed.
