Housequake said: Hi. Just got home and my SOTT DVD from Amazon.ca was waiting for me as promised. It's official! Right on the front it says "Digitally Remastered in Dolby Digital 5.1" and the back says "ASPECT RATIO: Widescreen (1:78:1) ENHANCED FOR 16x9 TELEVISIONS". I popped it in just to make sure and they weren't lying! It's an Alliance-Atlantis Region 1 NTSC DVD and if you've been wanting a high-quality widescreen official release of SOTT, THIS IS IT!! It seems to only be available in Canada but you can all order it through Amazon.ca since they ship internationally...
Peace. GREAT news! | |

I should have posted this earlier. My local DVD retailer, A&B Sound got some of these copies a week early apparently, so I bought mine from them Dec. 28 It's an Alliance Atlantis (division of Universal), for exclusive sale in Canada, according to the package (probably has something to do with Cineplex Odeon, Canadian, being the original distributor of it). Sound is good, picture just as bad as the video. Enjoyable watch, no special features, and really cheap. Works in Region 1 players. So everyone should order it from amazon.ca that lives in north america. I was most pleasantly surprised to discover it, and it was by accident too! "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Picture just as bad as the video? I don't know what you're watching this on, but on my TV this thing looks real good. The only bad part I noticed was the "U Got The Look" segment. It looked all washed out and as if it were taken from the video. I know it's suppose to be a dream sequence, but why so crappy. This same segment don't look like that on my VHS tape, but it does on the recent airings on cable. I wonder why it looks like that? Oh well. This is the best version of the 'movie' will probably ever get, so enjoy it. [Edited 1/9/05 8:25am]

With the exception of the "U Got the Look" segment, which looks like it was filmed off a TV screen, the rest of the video quality is excellent. This is the one to get.

I just got mine today and the picture is amazing! I'm noticing all kinds of little things i've never seen before just on the first veiwing! the sound is great! the menus and cover art could've been better, but the presentation of this dvd more than makes up for those little quips. Needless to say, this is a "must-have"! If you are leery of purchasing this after being burned by the brazilian and dutch releases, this is THE one! I can now retire my brave copy 4ever, thanks alliance. Now only if we can get Revolution Live and Lovesexy, I'd be too happy

I just got the DVD today. I was not expecting much after the history of this title...but after hearing everyone raving about it I was a little excited.
And now...I am a little disappointed. Hopes were a little too high. Picture quality is good, but very grainy and the compression rate is a little low with all of the smoke (especially SOTT). Looking at the bitrate (and not placing this in a computer yet), I would guess this was a single layer disc. I am viewing on a 53" 16:9 set. BUT: I dare say that this is the best this movie will ever look....unless P himself pays for the full restoration. I was impressed by the DD5.1...again, I think my hopes were a little low on the audio. I am not sure what I will listen to in the future as I think the Stereo is how we have all been used to it. If you are as big a SOTT fan as me....BUY THE DISC!!! Rod319

Come on people, Warner Brothers will never release a proper and 'official' dvd treatment of Sign O' The Times... The movie was flimed on Universal and plus it wasn't a big flim, because it was a concert flim. People just started to forget about it. Prince probably thinks it was a bad time of his career, because Crystal Ball was going to be his true 'masterpiece'. Warner could've been fair and let him release it as it was. But i'm still kinda glad he didn't release Crystal Ball because it would've been a long album, extending 3-records of songs. [Edited 1/10/05 20:55pm] Check me out and add me on:
