I would add to that.. given the importance of the tour and that it was going to revolve around his oldies, I don't think it would have been wise to come up with a mega-album, so to speak. Musicology is pretty chill, but also pretty safe for him. Let's remember that he has hundreds of songs in his vault and I really don't beleive that this album is made up of his best. I agree that he's not into singles, and has been saying so for at least five years. However, I do think that he probably was banking on getting a few hot singles out there, to provide the buzz. His song selection is perplexing to me, as I think they don't really fit together very well. But that's okay. IMHO, the only good songs are title track, Marrying Kind, and Man in Your Life (I can't stand Cinnamon Girl.. think it's silly). But, hey, these days, you're damn lucky if you can get an album with more than two good songs on it. It really is amazing to me how many people here that can't stand Cinnamon Girl. The 1st time I listened to it, I thought it sounded like something he would have done with the Revolution, and it still sounds like that to me. The funny thing is, it always seems like the people who love the 'earlier' Prince are the ones that hate Cinnamon Girl. I thouroughly enjoy the song and I love the guitar riffs at the end of it. btw, great posts OdysseyMiles! What's the use of being young if you ain't gonna get old

I just search the org...and find those who have already said what I want to say and say DITTO!

I am glad he is still doing music HIS way (yes, including Musicology)...and each time I learn something. Because of this CD I decided to re/discover his old stuff... some works for me and some ...not so much...but isn't that what it is supposed to be? A musician/artist puts forth his interpretation and we, in turn interpret...maybe that is why Prince has lasted...he allows us to explore and his music is never "canned"...after all...I have recently began listening, for the first time, the Black Album...and I do not get it, but maybe it was not meant for me to get. I happen to GET Musicology.
