I truly believe that this was Prince's year. Just when everyone though he had gone off the deep end and faded into pop star obscurity, he returns like a phoenix rising from the ashes. It began with his Grammy performance, then onto the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and then the whole Musicology gammut (album, tour, videos, interviews, etc.). Not to mention the 20th Anniversary of the release of Prince's movie debut and, arguably, his greatest album.

This is why I love Prince. He has proven to possess the ability to just step back into the game, stronger and better than he was in a long while. When we as fans assumed that he would never return to the spotlight again, he does an about face on us and lets us know why we loved him in the first place.

And Prince definitely is the man, no doubt about that.

While this was indeed a great year for Prince...I don't consider this a comeback for him. This whole year has a sort of gimmicky feel about it.
That feeling, I believe, was brought about, not by Prince, but by corporations.
His DVD re-releases probably wouldn't have happened if he wasn't already in the public eye. Billboards decision to count his giveaways as sales prompted the biz to take a closer look at him also. Musicology was a very good CD, nothing mindblowing, nothing daring, but it stayed in the limelight, not of its own merit, but because of Billboards decision.

His grammy performance was ok (true fans have seen better), but it opened the eyes of the folks who had fallen off, or who never seen him before. That's who that performance was meant for.

The RNRHOF performance was for us.

Nothing gimmicky about the tour...that tour was RED HOT from the start.

To sum up this year...I loved that he became more in the public eye, more accessible. It was indeed a very good year for Prince and his fans.
I guess I just wish that a GREAT CD, an undeniably groovalistic in-yo-face
funk/rock/synth record would have sparked all of this interest...does that sound like '84???

yea the corporations defo hyped p this yr , musicology was simply average as far as p albums go .
