"if i were to write a letter to a friend, and tell them about an experience, i wouldn't say how it made me feel; i would say exactly what i did, so that they could experience it, too, rather than the intellectual point of view. if you give them a situation, maybe that you've encountered, or whatever, give them the basis of it, let them take it to the next stage, they make the picture in their own mind."

After reading these quotes, something occurred to me:
Many Prince fans really enjoyed what Prince had to say early on when he was BS'ing his way through things and just making things up. He made up this total rock star fantasy of who he was and how he was to be perceived. It seems like many fans so bought into that image of him that nowadays, when he occasionally shows his "true self" people hate it. They want that fantasy rude boy rock star thing, not this spiritual, business minded, experienced rock star that he is now. [Edited 12/6/04 17:40pm] "New Power slide...."

This is a quote from Jet magazine around late 80's or early 90's. All I remember is this when the magazine still had black and white pictures and in the center of the magazine there used to be a section, it was a celebrity quote section with their names and their quotes next to it and on the bottom of the page would be their picture. It had a topic at the top of the page and was featured in every issue weekly, but I don't remember what it was. Anyway here goes.
Prince talking about artist who don't take themselves to the next level like he does. "I'm not saying I'm better or anything I'm an alternative. I'm something else. There are alot of talented people out there. I just don't think they go far enough"--Jet magazine.

I also like when hes actually relaxed and being truthful when giving answers. Did you order a pizza ma'am? Prince- UTCM

if you check out his account on IMDB someone has posted prince quotes. they're pretty cool
one is about him wearing high heels, saying something like, people always think i wear high heels because i'm short, but i don't, i wear it cos the chicks dig it and another is about being cool, and he says something like if you can walk into a room and not be afraid about who might be there and how you should act or what you should say, then you're cool whatever the second quote is its a great quote, and so true. and no doubt he follows it himself as he doesn't give a shit about sitting on his own in a VIP section of a restaurant/bar for 3 hours before leaving randomly!

"so you think Prince is a perfect gentleman? Not rude and arrogant? gentleman dont wanna name girls "Vagina" "
Not at all what I was saying. What I was getting at was this: Prince created this "mysterious, aloof, rock star Prince persona". Many of the quotes above are from earlier in his career when he promoted himself as being this emigmatic guy and a good deal of people bought it. They thought Prince was this mysterious etheral guy. Nowadays Prince wears his viewpoints on his sleeve and he speaks about his whatever his current philosophy is. People don't like the "real" Prince. They want that rock star fantasy enigma.
