BEST RAPPING BY PRINCE

I will not be the first to say that I don't like when Prince raps. There are exceptions though.

Do you think Prince raps his best on SEXY MF or RACE?

i don't like his rapping on "race" - it's my least favorite thing about the whole song, though i'll admit he has his moments in it. my favorite rapping by prince is the stuff he did early on before he really tried to sound like he was rapping...like the spoken part in "sexuality" (more of a rant, i know) and "all the critics love u in new york" - there was a beatnik quality to that stuff that i just thought was HOTT.

and ok, i'll say it - i loved his rapping in "annie christian", too - it's so uncool, it's cool.

You stated your case eloquently. I agree on Annie Christian and the early stuff. "Critics" was and is the shit. Love that song. SEXUALITY is on my top ten of Prince songs.

I know I'm gonna get dogged for this, but I'm gonna say it anyway...
I always dug Prince's rap in "The Latest Fashion." That "pregnant 'bout wombin' me" part doesn't make much sense but for some reason I always liked his rap in that song.

And I liked Cat's rap in "Alphabet St." Other than that, it's slim pickin's. If you discount the pseudo-rap of those early 80s songs you're left with "Face Down" and Tony M. *shudder*

Days Of Wild, the live version from the "Beautiful Experience" TV special from 1994.
I also liked his rapping on 18&Over but only live ( like he did at the Paradiso in 95)
I know people like to diss this one, but I do like DaDaDa from Emancipation sometimes...it just seems a bit dated now.

But his best rapping was before he actually incorporated into his work...like in the years before 1989. His own, unique style was better IMH, like on the songs mentioned above.
I like most of the 81-87stuff .

If it's between Race and Sexy MF, I'd choose Sexy MF. I think the job he does on P Control is better than both of 'em, though.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

how come nobody mentioned the good life remix...I think that shatters most "rap" Prince has done. Now that being said, I don't consider most of his early 80's stuff rap...I don't know why...but I don't. And that is some tight stuff...Irrisitible Bitch being the best.

Snap

i really don't like his rapping... because he does it with an attitude that comes across as fake to me... same reason i don't like "Glass Cutter"

i do like his "spoken" lyrics tho -- much of 1999 and other songs like that -- seems more natural to me -- that's Prince... not the rapper.
