most uplifting prince song ... i'd go with PAISLEY PARK
the lyrics in that song always blew my mind "there is a park that is known 4 the face it attracts colorful people whose hair on 1 side is swept back the smile on their faces it speaks of profound inner peace ask where they're going they'll tell you nowhere they've taken a lifetime lease on paysley park" and the chorus: "the girl on the seesaw is laughing 4 love is the color this place imparts admission is easy, just say u believe and come 2 this place in your heart paisley park is in your heart" that is f..... truly classic and so beautiful actaually that whole record in a long period of my youth stood as a bible, and it still does. i think it very much sums up a varity of beliefs and philosophies that will last till the day is done.. for me, anyway also "the ladder" is a masterpiece, lyrically. "the steps you take are no easy road but the reward is great 4 those who want to go" for me that is quite what life is all about other uplifitng songs ? [Edited 11/25/04 14:29pm]

As much as I criticize the preaching on The Rainbow Children,
I always have to pause when I hear "Last December" It's inspiring. If your Last December came what would you do? Would anybody remember to remember you? Did you stand tall or did you fall? Did you give you all? Did you ever find a reason, why you had to die ? Or did you just plan on leaving without wondering why. Was it everything it seemed? Did it feel like a dream Did you feel redeemed? In Your life did you just give a little? or did you give all you had? Were you just somewhere in the middle not too good, not too bad? I don't care for the chorus that much, but the verses kick ass.

Let's Go Carzy! Because Prince is talking about the elevator is the Devil, and when he sings "we're not gonna let the elevator bring us down. OHNOLET"SGO! Let's go crazy! Let's go crazy is God. When the elevator tries to bring u down. Go Crazyyyy! Punch a higher floor. Which mean go to God instead of the Devil. Then on top of that, the intro is the best in the world. And the music?...need I say more?

i also consider "the love we make" quite an extraordinary song. all through the song it is a very god-his son-saviour-kind of lyric - very christian religious thematic - but towards the end prince comes down to the fact that there might be a god, a saviour, (and a heaven you can earn your right to be a member of), but after all - its all a human and very profane thing that life and chances in it comes down to - "the only love there is, is the love we make" - a very post-modern and constructionistic and individualized way of thinkin that is quite the opposite of what would be a traditional, religious, theocratic manner of belief..that might be what i so much like about prince, that love and god is one thing, and that love is a matter of choise. peace!!
"the love we make" Desperate is the day that is 2morrow 4 those who do not know the time has come 2 whip the dogs that beg, steal or borrow From the table God set 4 His Son Wicked is the witch that stands 4 nothing All the while watching 2 see U fall Deeper than the ditch that bred your suffering The one being dug right now by them all Happy is the way 2 meet your burdens No matter how heavy or dark the day Pity on those with no hope 4 2morrow It's never as bad as it seems until we say Precious is the baby with a mother That tells him that his Saviour is coming soon All that believe will cleanse and purify themselves Put down the needle, put down the spoon {x2} Sacred is the prayer that asks 4 nothing, oh While seeking 2 give thanks 4 every breath we take, oh Blessed are we inside this prayer 4 in the new world, we will be there The only love there is, is the love we make {x2} (The only love there is, is the love we make) Only love there is, only love there is The only love there is, is the love we make (Yeah) The only love there is, is the love we make agree?? very true about still would stand all time these lyrics are very beautiful: we R not alone people (we're not alone) tell me can U see the light (can ya see the light) if U just open your eyes (still would stand all time) so much U will know, so much U will show Love, Love, its not that far away if we all say yes and give it a try (Got ta give it...a try...yes!) still would stand all time (I say still) (so many times) so may times, i thought i could not make it (still would stand all time) life was closing in I just knew, I just knew I couldn't take it that's when Love opened it's arms, and if U dont go in child Still would stand all time (still would stand all time) U better run to the light, leave your past behind all things will be fine Still would stand all time

Must be from the same sessions as still would stand all time" as both have that beutiful slow motion walking type production....."time waits....." is a beutiful and very underated song, though it is kinda sad or defient though depending if u r mavis in the song or the lover who missed her, if u know what mean?

stupid? not at all...in fact i think that's a pretty nice choice. This is one of my favorite inspiration songs by Prince. I especially like the lyric "if I see 11, you can say it's 7. STILL I wish you heaven." Everyone has different interpretations of the divine, and for Prince (then) to acknowledge that and still wish those with different views heaven is one of the sweetest, purest expressions ever. Love it.

Most uplifting songs (sometimes a love song can be uplifting):
My Love Is Forever (For You) With You (Prince) Free (1999) Baby, I'm A Star (Purple Rain) The Ladder (ATWIAD - I like Paisley Park, but I don't quite get uplifted) Life Can Be So Nice (Parade) Play In the Sunshine (Sign O' the Times) Trust (Batman) Can't Stop This Feeling I Got, Elephants & Flowers, Grafitti Bridge (Grafitti Bridge) Strollin', Walk Don't Walk (Diamonds & Pearls) The Sacrifice Of Victor (Symbol) and on and on and on... Oh, and by the way: Anything from Lovesexy or The Rainbow Children

Purple Rain.
I know the lyrics sound like an apology or explanation for past demeanours but it has this weird effect on me. I guess it's basically about salvation. It's one of those goosebump songs like Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel.

Word up this thread!
It's funny, when I am down I can hardly listen to any music at all, but it is Prince's stark and dark songs that give some sort of uplift. In other words, Come, the song and the tracks on the album. But when I am feeling good and want to explode even more unto joy, then Daddy Pop, New Position, Raspberry Beret, Starfish & Coffee and Release It done do da business for me. --------
