How about a Soul "Record" Prince!

Latest Headlines Read...
Prince Sets New Record for single "Call My Name"...which we all know, Prince can truly write a beautiful soul ballad, from "The Beautiful Ones, Nothing Compares 2U, Scandalous, The Most Beautiful Girl, The One, Do Me Baby, Condition Of The Heart...and so on!

So what about Prince recording a complete album of soulful songs?
I personally think it would be a great idea.
I wouldn't want him to abandon his rock and funk roots, but how about an album for those who love a good love making Prince song!

It seems, the pop market won't allow Prince a massive hit, and only Urban Adult Radio has supported the 'MUSICOLOGY' Project!

"Call My Name" was being played on 4 stations in Detroit and they were all Urban Adult and Hip Hop stations.

Mixx 92.3, Kiss 102.7, WJLB 97.9, WDTJ 105.9 - all supported the track!

So it would be really great if he did a record for that particular demographic...of couse he's given us "The Rainbow Children and Emancipation", but a single record with nothing but his signature screams, moans and doing thangs to the mind like only he could...OMG!

Also feature a few guest(s):

Jill Scott (beautiful; yet jazzy duet)

Rachelle Pharrell (beautiful duet w/ lots of piano)

Maxwell (beautiful duet w/ lots of strings)

Chaka Khan & Me'shell (beautiful duet w/ lots of bass)

Alicia Keys (piano collaboration & backing vocals) ONLY!

Common (something simple & modern with a hip hop twist)

I think an album like this will appeal to all!
Just something simple with lots of soul, no distractions!

Not a bad idea and I don't mind your selection of guests either. Although I don't usually like that kind of stuff, this could be pretty good.

Think again...
I don't think music lovers want or need to hear a talented and established musician collaborate with hack products like you mentioned (save for Chaka and Me'shell, the only two people with actual talent on your list...)
If the guy would do an exclusive soul record (which would be boring as fuck for the listener and himself...) it would be kind of lame to have it butchered by some "now" and "hip" acts and wannabe's who don't even have their own sound... He'd be like Santana II, another one of those talented musicians who sold out by collaborating with the industries "hot" flavour of the weeks just to get a Grammy...

He needs to go back to eclectic pop as well. He needs to avoid middle of the road funk. The best funk has already been written. Better to go into the future.

Yes, an opinion from Neversin. My guess is like 80% of the people on this board you would not know a soul record if it fell out of the sky and hit you in the head. Just the fact that you don't think Jill Scott is talented tells your whole story.(LOL)> Of course P show do a soul record. It is RnB fans that have been most faithful fans. Musicology is still hanging tough on the R n B charts with no give-a-ways going on at this time and you Rock n Roll freaks can't stand it. Funk never dies it just grows.

Hey .....didn't he do Santana II when he did Rave.

No disrespect the artists on that album's own work ( Chuck D) but it just didn't work.

Prince never does well when he name drops (" some D'Angelo) or some " Macy"
Music is the best...

Thats a nice idea but I would much rather see Prince put show off a dirty

funkier more rock sound. I LOVE when his sound it all over the place

with nasty guitar riffs, moans, and melodies. cool

Besides, on his last few albums the majority of the tracks have had that mature

contempoary, R&B/jazz sound, which is good, but we dont wanna overdo it confused
If you will, so will I

Hold Up! I woulda put Jill Scott in the wanna-be category up until last year. Then I heard her live record and was more impressed than I expected. Don't forget about artist development, ya'll. It's hard to tell someone's potential just from the first one or two albums. Would you judge Prince's abilities based solely on For You and Prince? I hope not.....

As for the all soul album, I have to agree with Neversin (well, except for the Jill Scott comment) -- no thank you. Been there. Done that. Boring.

Prince is at his best when he is not confined to any one particular genre. He is a master at blending multiple ideas and influences into his very own Purple Music.

I'd like to see him go into the studio and follow his muse wherever she may lead him. No parameters. No guests. No self-censorship. Just pure inspiration. Now THAT I would pay good money for.
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

I would doubt you will ever see a prince cd
filled with duets as you imagine - he couldn't tour to support it.
On Musicology he has Candy doing guest vocals on LOTP & then there she was onstage performing it with him. Unless Maxwell & Alicia Keys & Jill Scott or anyone else who guests on his cd tours with him he won't be able to perform those songs on tour. I thought one reason the later music made with the Revolution is not released was Prince saw no reason to have a cd with songs he couldn't do on tour since Wendy & Lisa & their minions had left the group.

sos, you need to open your ears again!

Rave is POP-ROCK & R/B!

What is "RAVE" (FUNK/ROCK)
"so far, so pleased" -POP
"baby knows" -POP/ROCK
EVERYTHING ELSE IS COMPLETE POP!!!
From : Strange but True to Hot with U!

Only soulful track on the album is "Man O' War & I Love U but I don't Trust U"!

Musicology is far from SOUL (LOL)
Of course he has "On the couch, "Call my name" & I'll give ya "Reflection"
EVERYTHING ELSE IS COMPLETE POP/ROCK!!!

Musicology is FUNK
ICPC is FUNK
A Million Days is POP
Life of the party is POP
WDUWMTD is R/B or could be very well played on POP stations
If I were the man in your life is R/B
The Marrying Kind is Pop/Rock
Dear Mr. Man is just PRINCE being Jazz, Funk, R/B and so much more in one tune.

So excuse me...The Rainbow Children and Emancipation are the two closest SOUL RECORDS by Prince, but there also experimental with other sounds, my suggestion was a single album with nothing but LOVE BALLADS.
In the style of Scandalous, Call My Name, Do Me Baby, International Lover and so fourth.

my humble opinion as a music-lover is:
I do not like the music of Alicia Keys,Beyonce,Erica Badu,Common,Musique,
Millenia,Funky Bald Heads, any of the Blackshire boys,Larry Graham(love his music before he turned into a major wuss)etc...i could go on-my point is,
why would i want Prince to do another soul record?he has been doing the same soul record since 1996!enough already dude, don't turn into Larry or God forbid-
Angie Stone!just so ya know,i am a black-man,i love my soul records ,BUT,Prince needs to move on now,way too much "smooth jazz" lately.i am not even asking for
another purple rain or rock guitar album or anything like that,im just saying,
the last thing he needs to release at this point would be a soul record, the people i mentioned above and through-out this post seem to have a pretty big influence on Prince's music of late,if he's recording soul music right now,how much you wanna bet that it's gonna sound like most of the other bland, middle of the road, smooth jazzy, can't find a good snare drum sample to save their lives, wimpy, plastic r-n-b that is being forced on us now?

Prince should not collaborate with anyone. It would take away from his creativity.

Forget the Soul record, I would like to hear a New Wave/Synth-Funk record.

Smooth Jazz is Kenny G. I don't think Alicia Keys, Erica, Common or Musique sound like Kenny G. The fact that you put in Beyonce in this group is even more disturbing.
Black Folks like soul music. Prince does this very well. Why not give the people what they want. I doubt if he will ever stop doing rock or funk but right now he has got a good run going. He should captilize on it.

No,I like it best when Prince mixes alot of styles together on one album. But don't get me wrong,a good old-fashioned soul album could be intriguing,as long as it doesn't sound too much like today's R&B.
