Prince covered by ´serious musicians´ Hi people
We all know Prince songs have been performed by very different artists...from the ´poppish´ ones to jazzy ones. Here, I am interested only on the covers made by kick ass musicians, not the protegees or poppish female singers. I know these ones already: Joshua redman - How come u dont call me Herbie Hancock - Thieves in the temple Living colour - 17 days Joe cocker - 5 women Miles Davis - 17 Penetration Bill Cobham - SOTT Can you help me with more of them? Thanks!

Foo Fighters -Darling Nikki
A local punk band has done covers of Controversy, Around the World in a Day, and Let's Go Crazy. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Thanks! I hear what you're saying in your opening paragraph, but I think Alicia Keys is a serious and talented artist. Caught the girl playing a live piano rendition of her cover of "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore"..... and it was class "..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."

I think "Sign Of The Times" by Simple Minds could fit in the list.

Thanks for the tips, people
I loved Foo Fighter´s version of Darling Nikki. Alicia keys can play, but I thought her first album was too ´poppish´ for my taste. I dint know Simple Minds covered SOTT....gotta check it! Please, if you know about or have more covers, please tell me. I still didnt find that SOTT cover performed by that australian jazz pianist...

On the local jazz station, I heard a cover of The Question of U by a female jazz vocalist. Can't remember who it was, but it was alright... could be worth looking up!
how's that Herbie Hancock, by the way? I'd have thought he'd cover something a little more engaging... [Edited 11/23/04 19:02pm]

There is an entire cd of Prince music by The Classic Metropolitan Orchestra and a cover of Nothing Compares 2 U by jazz vocalist Jimmy Scott. Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.

[Edited 11/23/04 19:02pm] - I didn´t love his cover of Thieves in the Temple too. He made a more gospel/bluesy sounding version, but it´s nothing really exciting. Very well played and such. But I was expecting more from the guy who wrote ´Chameleon´

I saw Travis Morrison in concert and he covered Erotic City. For those that don't know who he is, he's an indie-rock legend and was once the lead singer of The Dismemberment Plan.
I miss The Plan. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

The Foo's are a legit professional band IMO. Dave Grohl is a very talented man.
btw; Dave and the Foo's have also covered "Drive Me Wild" and it is on the "My Hero" cd single. Later Cause tomorrow is taking too long
