The most beautiful DVD in the world

Oh wow I am in love with the Rave DVD that I got for Christmas. This embodies all of the reasons that I love Prince. For one, he looks absolutly beautiful and sexy as hell biggrin . But also, it is the perfect combination of flashy performance and yet keeping the focus on the music. In 2000 I was not yet a fan (although I have done my share of catching up since then!) so for me to see this was awesome! For those of you who don't have it, it is WAY worth the investment.

P--you look sexy and hot beyond words in Rave and all I can say is give us more of that funk!!!!! cool

I think it's pretty cool to see a relativly new fan on this board...Not yet a "deep fan" of Prince back in 2000! I can't believe that it's been 23 years that I've been a devoted fan...Welcome 2 the Prince Community and enjoy all the things that you'll find out that you've been missing~ Aloha~

i cant believe that you guys liked the dvd so much,
i thought it was a little disappointing, probably due to the fact that i had huge expectations.
i thought that princes vocals didnt sound as good as they usually do, however i love when rosie and prince do the duet of nothing compares to you. very very good .. lenny was also an unexpected highlight...

The blue jumpsuit had to go! Everything else was funky! I really love She Always In My Hair and Kiss. Lenny and Larry I could of done without.

Yes, I agree about the suit. It was crazy and Lenny and Larry didn't excite me too much either. As for me being a new fan, I've been doing a lot of catching up over the past 3 years and it is great because there is SO much Prince material out there that you can always find something new! And She's Always in My Hair was the best song on the Rave DVD I think!

This one's redeemed by all the guitar work. "Purple Rain" is majestic, and he shreds the hell out of "Purple (Red) House."
Docked a notch for ruining the last live performance ever of 1999 by bringing a bunch of hangers-on onstage, including a former host of "The View".
Ugh.

There are definitely a few high points to this DVD (She's Always in My Hair, for sure!) but overall the editing and the cheesy camera effects kind of diminish the "greatness" factor for me. neutral

And oh yeah, that annoying blonde dancer. Ugh.

I really dislike this DVD. To me he looked like a washed up popstar trying to be all cool in these ridiculous clothes, performing with a mediocre band in his own poorly decorated studio in front of his last few remaining fans, not even enough to fill up the entire place. I was disturbed and embarrassed when I first watched this DVD, I felt the once great Prince had completely lost the plot. Luckily for me he got back with TRC and the ONA tour.

Besides all that, I love the "She Is Always In My Hair" performance...

Hmmm, although I hate being too negative, I have to agree to that.
The Rave period was very disappointing. A failed attempt to have a comeback, to force a comeback, to be "hype" again with some misplaced guest stars and mediocre songs which he mostly did not dare to use on the Rave DVD. I do not dare to put that DVD into my player because I hate being disappointed again and being reminded of that. It is really sad to see Prince in this situation, playing superstar when he totally lost it and things looked like this was really the ending of the great Prince.
The only thing I like about the DVD is "The Time" and the technical side of it. I still wish the Vegas DVD would have been a full show in decent picture & sound quality just like Rave.

TRC - whether you like the JW background or not - was the right move after that. Some kind of downsizing, concentrating on strenths, being "on track" again, not trying to follow modern musical trends. If I cannot be a superstar anymore, I do not try to force it and just get back to funk & explore some jazz. It definately is a quality album and the ONA tour was a small one, just for the fans, but also a quality tour. That whole period really reinforced my beliefs in Prince's musical strenghts and his regained public success in 2004 is a logical result of this "getting back on track process" and fully deserved.

Of course this is only my OPINION. If you like the Rave DVD, goody for you. It has some nice moments, just like the Rave CD (have to admit I liked TGRES from the very beginning).
