A bunch of electro and lo-fi artists got together and did an album called If I Was Prince. The Misty Dixon version of The Beautiful Ones makes my heart melt.

Was it also on an album? Big Audio Dynamite did a great version of 1999. I know that's not exactly what you meant by kick ass musicians, but Mick Jones was in the Clash, so he kicks ass to me. How about The Cross by the Blind Boys of Alabama?`You can't get much more respectable than these guys. It's on their cd Higher Ground.`
