If Prince's next album...

FINSIH THE THOUGHT. Mine is:

If Prince released the New Translation as a book-on-tape in installments for his next ten albums, you'd still be here like all the rest of us.

Prince has been awful/mediocrefor a long, long time. Anyway, this is not a kill prince thread. And truthfully this long time fan this is just about done. But while we are on the subject of killing the man's music, let me ask, How much garbage can one man release?

New Power Soul
Slaughter House
Musicology
Xpectation
NEWS
Batman (most of it)
TRC (most of it)
Chaos and Disorder

Damn, that's eight records!!!!

Movies?
All of them.

Concert Videos?
All official videos except Sign O The Times.

WHERE IS THE QUALITY CONTROL.?????

No. I'm at work wasting time talking about an artist who is long past his prime.

looks like i gotta put out the welcome mat for this thread:

...if he's past his prime and you're growin disillusioned with whatever he puts out now, why are you still tuning in? i'll never fully understand people who make similar statements, but yet n'still will keep an eye out on what prince is/isn't doing. i'll admit it, i don't care for most of his new stuff but i don't sit around and mope about it. i just go and listen to other shit in my collection.

why can't everyone else do that? hmm

damn right! biggrin

not to mention, there's so much of the old stuff always sitting around to discover or re-discover, it almost makes the "next" album a moot point.

almost.

it only seems prince can make a dent in the urban markets now...unless he has a great lead pop single!
Something like 'The Most Beautiful Girl in the world' or '7', and promote it like crazy!

otherwise...Prince should release a soul/rock/funk/jazz oriented style record, that doesn't cater to the mainstream music scene.

Take us on a musical journey like ATWIAD, Controversy, Dirty Mind, or Parade.

The music was different, wasn't like anything on the radio...this is the same formula he uses all the time, but go more left with it!

Something Xperimental like 'Xpectation' use violins, more piano, definitely funk with the bass more...and lots of rock guitar!

A Classic Prince Album in 2005!

Bring on some duets...with Jill Scott!
With her style and voice, they could do some damage!

Wendy Melvoin & Ani Difranco could rock out on a great acoustic track w/ Prince!

Plus get Gwen back...on a track, 'So far So Pleased' was lukewarm bubble gum pop!
Do something like...'Rock Lobster' (b-52's) or 'Delirious, Jack U Off, Can't stop this feeling I got'...just take it back to the punk days and hit us with raw, edgy guitar, and fun lyrics!

Prince could definitely give us what we want!

If Prince's next album...

...is another one of those "internet only" deals...

...then I may quite seriously consider...

...waiting for the next CD release...um...

...whenever it comes out.

if prince's next album ...

sounds anything at all like Musicology, i'll be a happy man.

if prince's next album ...

is produced by Steve Albini, i will be frightened beyond belief.

Suck it, because from those eight records, look what came out of it....
New Power Soul (The One, Madsex, Come On, Wasted Kisses)
Slaughter House (This whole online record is sweet, suck it)
Musicology (Another classic. I don't care what you say, I can listen to this over and over again. My bro (19 yrs old) asked if he could have a copy of one of my concert cd's because he heard 'Musicology' on MTV and loved it)
Xpectation (Not what Prince usually puts out and I am not into Jazz so I can't comment on this)
NEWS (See above)
Batman (most of it) (The FUture, Electric Chair, Vikki Waiting, Scandalous, Batdance, Party Man, Trust---that is most of it and these are all bad ass tracks.)
TRC (most of it)(Title track, Muse, Digital Garden, Everywhere, 1+1+1=3, Everlasting Now, Last December, She Loves Me 4 Me--all instant classics)
Chaos and Disorder (Title track, I Like It There, Dinner With Delores, I Will, Zanalee, Had U--awesome)
These may have not been Prince's shining moments, but they are all strong tracks and strong albums. You're perception of them is fucked up because radio and the media didn't promote it like it was the next great thing, but none the less...
As I said before...
SUCK IT!

Not If but When...

When Prince puts out his next album...he won't please everyone!
