On this week's Billboard R&B Singles chart, "Call My Name" rebounds 48-44 in it's 27th week on the chart. Believe it or not, this is the longest any Prince single has ever spent on the R&B chart. His previous records for longevity were "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World," which both spent 23 weeks on the chart.

It's all the more impressive considering "Lover" and "Beautiful" reached nos.1 and 2, respectively, while "Call My Name" only made it to no.27. Slow and steady wins the race...

Wow! That's surprising. It is, however, a great song, with some slick political commentary snuck in. It's also a classic Prince love song. Right up there with Scandalous and Adore, in my opinion. I think that time will eventually prove me right on that one. Ten to fifteen years from now his audience will still be going crazy when he plays that song. Congrats to Prince on another hit!

I keep saying that On the Couch would be at least as successful as Call My Name. I even think that it would crack the Top 5 on the R&B charts, even without a video. It might even do well enough there to eventually crossover into the Top 40.

I know that many on this site might not be feeling it as much as the other songs on Musicology, however, I really think that the R&B crowd would feel it. Remember, we're not talking about a Pop song for pop radio listeners. Simple business - Prince always get the benefit of the doubt when he releases his R&B songs to Urban and Urban AC stations. For instance, many didn't like Call My Name, but it struck a cord with the R&B audience and did well. I think that On the Couch, and even Dear Mr. Man, would at least do as well if released to those stations.

For Prince to get another hit, that's definitely the way to go.
