..and hey, I like the "face paint" and the "Tick Tick Bang" performances! Prince is the man no question, but when I was in the 8th grade I made 6 of my friends go see this movie on opening night, 14 years later they are still pissed at me. Purple rain was respectable because no one in the movie for the most part had ever acted before. Under the cherry moon was hilarious, and Prince was an absoulute pimp in the movie, but Graffti Bridge, as much as I have tried to stick up for it over the years was terrible. Morris Day was the only good part of the movie. YESSSSS. That was my favorite part of the movie. I thought it was the best scene also. "There's only three things for sure in life. For Prince fans they don't see that, all they see is that Prince is not the main point, he is not as involved in it as he was in the other films, there are even less scenes with him even in it, and to them the music doesn't compare to the outright served up on a silver platter music of the others. it must be the "worst prince movie ever". Loose all of your biases, and this movie becomes one of the classic good movies. The main bias to loose is that this is not a Prince Movie...It's a Movie/Musical from the mind of Prince.

I love , but honestly... lets be totally real-- what was the "main problem" in this movie? Although some strong points are emphasozed, you still cant believe that people thought this good enough to put out int he movies-- Let your conscience be yo fuckin' guide... Doesn't the Kid ride his motorcycle around the bridge, effectively riding on the "river?" it looks like you need a fucking running start and a boost to get over that shit. I think it helps (what I'm not sure... ) to think that if UTCM is a kind of hysterical take on French film noire - stylised, b&w etcetc, then GB becomes a similar take on..I don't know - those really staged 1940s & 50s musicals with Fred Astair and co. The sets were really fake and people would spontaneously burst into song and the whole street would join in the big dance number... A kind of 90s Westside Story...??
Clearly it also helps to watch this film in a...chemically enhanced state... Call her green and the winter cannot fade her

yo Morris didn't have a 'magic wand', he got Aura drunk on wine @ the club & N the car N the middle of a pimp sandwich...then he planted a subliminal message as she drifted off, "U'll fall N Love with the 1st person U C"...when she woke up who did she C? how 'bout this as an analogy: Morris portrayed the 'bad' Prince(real close 2 an upclose&personal view) & the 'Kid' portrayed the
'good' Prince...strangeButTrue point of view...peep this, Aura died but she didn't go away...all the kid needed 2 do was return 2 the Bridge & she was there 4 him...(take it 2 the Bridge!)so ya'll might get a look @ the landscape N the land of his reality! while my poetry may B like my children 2 B i definately ain't never lived under no Bridge!

Graffiti Bridge, the only movie that I have ever seen that people booed at. I left after the Morris/Jerome Ingrid (I think) sex scene. Corny!

Oh come on, Grafitti Bridge wasn't that bad. After 3 gin and tonics, two goblet of red wine and a glass of champagne, I found it pretty entertaining.

I wished TC Ellis and Mico weaver were in it more!
TC got banished to end credits only when he did eventually rap! I wonder about the original ending? the title track obviously woulda been at the end but how? Unless they all have a big sing a long after "still would stand all time"? With Morris yelling "Tevin, Mavis, y r u singing that shit, stop it!"?

Co sign co-sign and co-sign! It's one of those films where you can't help but wonder, why did he make this or what was he thinking? It was the very first time Prince ever did anything bad to me. Wow, that film was baaaaaddddd. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I'd have to say, MY worst moment from this "film" has to be TC Ellis. First off, here's a guy who can't act, or rap, playing a rapper. He moans continuosly "Kid, let me rap!" throughout! Prince ignores him, but we don't know why until the end credits. Sheesh! Add a "C" to that rap!
His worst moment? When he walks away, all dejected, saying "man, I never got to rap" like he's a five year-old! To make matters worse, P then let this guy record an album!! A harbinger of the horror that was to come in the form of Tony M, no doubt about it!!! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Tony M (as r the following gameboyz) r in "GB" they r backing dancers and u see 'em dance behind tevin during "round and round" So even Tony M was in the movie.....makes it better right?

Okay - the costume designer was killing me. The denim ruffle thing that Aura had goin on just was way out of control. Thank god Morris bought her some clothes! [Edited 11/20/04 20:57pm]

It was an alright movie, but Ingrid Chavez would've fit so well as a character on Star Trek. Cause thats what her performance in the GB reminded me of.
As a matter of fact, Graffiti Bridge shouldve been a movie about Aura - a mysterious alien woman from another planet who was dropped on Earth. Call it "Graffiti Space" or something. Onion Juice appears courtesy of Streethop.com

A harbinger of the horror that was to come in the form of Tony M, no doubt about it!!! TC Ellis was always the biggest cringe maker for me, both his acting and his pathtic album. The kicker came a few years later when my old band was performing at an outdoor fair/block party thing, and there was TC, working at a lemonade stand! He was talking about how he was trying to get another recording contract but was having a hard time. How I didn't bust out laughing in his face, I'll never know... And I'd be remiss if I didn't thank Nouveau for the great post! What's the use of being young if you ain't gonna get old
