Despite the backlash Elton John has received here from all his comments, I still agree with what he said.

Live should be live.

The airwaves are filled with mediocrity, creating artists who can't hack it.

And Prince is awesome live!

So did Madonna lip synch at all on her last tour or not? I thought she did this one all live and I think Elton John picked the wrong target to air his views, though in general I agree with what he said, which is basically what Prince has been saying for most of this year!

I also like what the guitarist from the Manic Street Preachers said on CD:UK talking about Busted and the like - he said just because they can play a guitar half decently, they think they are a proper band and not just another manufactured boy band, which is what they really are.

I agree w/ you both-- there should be live skills before these canned bastards are called "artists" and the crap hits the shelves. by the way..PRINCE IS THE BEST ONSTAGE--

Does Prince really need a thumbs up from Sir Elton? I think not.
I may seem biased being a Madonna fan but Elton talks too much.
He didn't like Madonna's show because of the dancing. What about Janet Jackson? Kylie Minogue?
Even better, Michael Jackson, who lip synchs like 80% of his shows and dances....
He asks why Madonna has to dance.... ummmmm because she's a dancer, jackass!

Well, Elton John probably did pick the wrong target in Madonna (though the reason he brought her up in the first place was because of her nomination), but he was still correct in the points he made about the state of pop music in general. Not being a fan of Madonna, I still feel she's paid her dues and done plenty to prove herself.

I don't think it's that he didn't like the dancing. It seems that he's against artists who dance so much that they feel they need to lip-sync when they perform. Don't know if that still applies to Madonna or not.

As far as his general point goes I agree with him. I've seen too many folks who can sing fake their way through it because of some over-choreographed dance number they had to put in. IMO, if the backflips and handstands are gonna prevent you from singing live then cut them out and sing.

Liz Rosenberg, Madonna's publicist, said in a statement, "Madonna does not lip-sync. She sang every note of her Re-Invention Tour live."

How would you all be reacting if Prince made these comments about the industry instead of Elton John?....

he does, doesn't he? only, he doesn't name names.

every musicology show i went to this summer, prince made a crack about lip synchers. a few of the shows i went to, he mades swipes at WB. other than his former label, the only difference between prince's comments and elton's jibes is that prince might be a titch more tactful in who he's calling out.

I was in the last Paris show of Madonna's Re-Invention Tour and I think she did lip-sync on the songs - Vogue, Nobody Knows Me, American Life & Die Another Day - but I don't care at all! 'cuz I've got something magical that only a few artists can give U! Elton isn't that kind so he can say what he wants - I don't give a damn about it - even if he praises Prince! And as I said earlier: "I took Elton off of my Christmas list!!! lol
