What should I buy ? Hi there!
I'm not a Prince fan, but I do own the Purple Rain album and the movie since their release. Of course, I've just bouhgt the new DVD edition of the movie, and once again it made me listen to the album again and again. I remember that in the mid-80's I saw a TV broadcast of a live show which was amazing! I remember discovering Little Red Corvette and 1999 and it was a bit of a shock! Strangely, I've never bought any other Prince album. But today I want this to change! And that's why I come to you on this forum. Which album do you think would be the best to buy for someone who loves Purple Rain, who hates "best of" albums and who was astonished by a mid-80's live performance of the artist? Thank you for your answers. Tof.

If you love "Purple Rain", then you will love "1999". Then start going backwards..."Controversy", "Dirty Mind", "Prince", and "For You". After that, buy "Around The World In A Day" and start going forward. Andy is a four letter word.

If U want a decent collection of his hits, then "The Hits/The B Sides" is a very good one.
1999 is a good oldie. The Symbol album is very good. Also, U might want 2 get "The Gold Experience" (if U can find it). Musicolgy is pretty good as well. I'm sure you'll get alot of different opinions, but hey, everyone's taste is different. What U Like I might hate and vice versa. Have fun buying your music! Warning: You many become addicted!

First of all, I thank you all very much for your fast replies.
I guess I'll buy 1999, because the songs I remember the best from the live I saw are on this one. And the three of you recommend it! I'll will also buy The Hits/The B-sides, because, even though I hate bestofalbums, it might be a good way to have an overview of his career. And B-sides are often a good way to hear what an artist can do when his goal is not to be played on the radio. Then I'll choose between Symbol and Sign Of The Time. Or maybe I'll get 'em all. Oh my god! I'm addicted! Already! Tof.

If you get Lovesexy you wont be able to go from song to song. Unless tracks have been added in later issues of the CD. GLAM SLAM (strange but beautiful song), Alphabet St. of course and When 2 R In Love. You really have no idea what you've gotten yourself into. I'm listening to DANCE ON!
So, it's done, I have ordered The Hits/The B-Sides yesterday at Amazon.fr (it should be delivered before the week ends), but 1999 was not available. So I went to town and tried to find it... Believe me or not: I could not find 1999! I bought Lovesexy instead (Sign Of The Times was available too, but very expensive)... Questions: 1/ I saw a record nammed "The Sexy Suite" or something like that; it seems to be related to the batman movie... What is it? 2/ Is the duet with Madonna on any Prince album? 3/ He made a triple album, didn't he? Which one is it? 4/ Is the live show I saw back in the Purple Rain days available on DVD? What was its name? btw Miguel, even though it's written on the CD, and on the booklet that "Songs are in a continuous sequence" they in fact have 9 tracks. It's strange because, even thought I didn't really follow Prince's career during these years, I remembered that when Lovesexy was issued it was on a single 45'-track. I found that very funny at the time! Very I'm-Prince-u-would-b-disappointed-if-eye-did-things-the-way-everyone-doz... I've always seen Prince as a very nice and funny guy, not taking himself seriously at all. Perhaps because of the PR movie... Anyway, if Lovesexy hits me, I'll get Sign Of The Times next. I'll let you know! Once again, thank you everybody for your advices. Prince fans rule! Tof.

Was up? 1) I believe the Sexy Suite has to do with the Scandalous Sex Suite, extended version of Scandalous from Batman. It has Kim Basinger on it. 2) The duet with Madonna is on the Like A Prayer Madonna Album. It's called Love Song. It's not on anything official by Prince. 3) The triple album is Emancipation, Crystal Ball. 4) I don't know if Purple Rain live is on DVD. I don't think so. Because of his new found noteriety they may start releasing more stuff. Who knows. Orgers feel free to correct me on any of this info. (I know u will!) 1999 is one of his best--
the symbol album, Musicology -- very important Rainbow Children Lovesexy[/list] There is definitely life beyond the Purple Rain era.
