Diamonds and pearls or rave into the joy? Which album is better?

Both albums were prince trying to be commercial again....."diamonds amnd pearls" kicks "Raves" arse 4 me! But then I prefer pop music of early 90's then I do late 90's.....plus it seems Prince tried with "diamonds" album, with "rave" I reckon he just thought he could be hip again without any real time spent on writing the songs!

"rave" is an odd mix! Even though it is commercial, it don't fit into any genre (not that I care but in terms of marketing), unlike "d and p" where a track like "gett off" could be a club/rnb and pop hit.same with "cream"! "rave" was so hyped and it still failed!! Wonder why.....

D&P for me.

Rave is one of my least favourite albums.

I think the song "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic" (which I love) has got nothing to do with rest of the album.
So I go with the Diamonds And Pearls album. "Money Don't Matter 2Night" and "Insatiable" are great, and we have some classics on it: "Cream", "Gett Off" and the title track. Also like "Strollin'", "Willing And Able" and "Thunder".

I think that RAVE is the better album....D&P is wayyyyy too full of filler...i.e. all of side 1 (besides the title track, "Cream" and "Get Off") and on side 2..besides "Walk Dont Walk", "Money Dont Matter" and"Insatiable"
side 2 sucks...especially "Push" and "Jughead" EMBARASSMENTS!!

while Rave has its share of crap on it(the title track, the Undisputed, The Greatest Romance,Everyday Is A Widening Road) I think that Rave has more GOOD songs than D&P(Prettyman, I Love U But I Dont Trust U, Sun Mooon Stars, So Far So Pleased, Silly Game, Baby Knows) so I think RAVE is the better CD lol

Rave. I have trouble picking a favorite song off of D&P because if they don't flat out suck, they're pretty lukewarm. Rave on the other hand has a bunch of pretty awful songs, a few okay ones, and I Love You But I Don't Trust You Anymore which I think, between those two albums, is the only truly great song of the bunch.

Put me down for "Rave" as well. D & P just doesn't do enough for me in terms of its song selection.

Ijust picked up rave this weekend but haven't yet listened 2 it. There are quite some differing opinion on these 2 albums. I Diamonds & pearls and I do like it; I'm hoping I'll like Rave just the same.

Iam sure u'll be as dissapointed as loads of us were with Rave! "d and p" has loads of energey, "rave" sounds hollow and very rushed!

Which one does not have Tony M ? Rave? Okay Rave is better. Give me Eve and Chuck D over Tony M each and every time.

People- there is no song on "Rave" that is as bad as "Jughead". It's as simple as that. Rave's strongest material may not touch Diamonds and Pearl's strongest material, however, Rave's weak material is way better than the worst of Diamonds and Pearls. Also, let me say it again, Rave does not feature Tony M.

I would have 2 say RAVE is better mainly because D&P has 2 many weak songs, including "Jughead" and "Push", which are 2 of my least favorite Prince songs. RAVE's "Wherever U Go Whatever U Do" is one of the most beautiful songs he's done in my opinion, although "Baby Knows" I think is pretty bad...

Rave by far. Very under-rated disc if you ask me.

Wherever U Go Whatever U Do is a really pretty tune, with a lovely sentiment.

The Sun, The Moon & Stars is heavenly... props to Fischer for the strings on that one!

Strange But True, I Love U But I Don't Trust U and the gorgeous Silly Game are also high points.

D&P is embarassing IMO. Thunder sounds like a poor mans When Doves Cry (way too OTT), Daddy Pop is shocking, as is Jughead and the sappy title track.

Gett Off barely has anything which resembles a melody and, along with Cream, is one of the most over-rated Prince songs released.

I am finding myself enjoying Rave more and more with each listen. Then again, I am referring to Rave In2 (the remixed one). There are some really strong cuts like Hot wit U, Undisputed, Man O'war, Sun Moon and Stars and Tangerine. There are also songs that ar classics...Beautiful Strange and Prettyman and The Greatest Romance Ever Sold. I think where the album goes awry is in it's many collaborations, songs like Baby Knows and Everyday is a winding road...throw the album off too much.

So, I do like it better than D&P. I will give D&P allocades though...it is more a cohesive piece and Rave is much more hodge podge...and thus harder to get into.

Rave is far superior, and since you said Rave INTO, Rave In2 is far far far superior.

i know u did not say u hated Tony M, but come on people, we still on that Tony trip? I love "dappy pop", song is way out funky! U wait untill a few years when "rave" will sound dated too! Not that I care if it dates or not, people forget songs like "willing and able" and "money don't matter tonight", and "strollin" somehow fits into the album so well! Some of u diehards have a real hatred 4 his NPG days dont u? Anyway "man o war" is dull and very standard sort of thing, "silly game" is just sorta average and "so far so pleased" is just too MOR.....but then it mainly boils down to production and I pretty much hate the dreadful sequencing and sound of rave and vice versa 4 u guys!

I mentioned Tony M. It's not that I don't like anything with him ( prince is one of my favorite albums) it's just that he best used when he backs up Prince, not when he dominates the song (Jughead).

Gett Off is my favourite Prince song, therefore i believe that the Diamonds and Pearls album is far better than Rave unto the joy..

D&P's is full of sexual, funky songs..
