Little known facts about Prince songs Does anyone have juicy bits about Prince songs maybe the rest of us don't know. Like what a sample is really from, what he's really talking about, who's really playing what, etc.
I'm sure I'll think of more, but did for now I can offer: The beginning of Tick Tick Bang is a direct sample of the Jimi Hendrix's song "Little Miss Lover" The harmonica solo in Thieves in the Temple is lifted from a 70's tune. I heard this once but can't remember who or what. Anyone know? I'm sure everyone knows about the message in Prince's cane in the Alphabet St. video. How about the message in Le Grind? Some questions looking for answers: Is that really a song called Boy sung by Wendy backwards in Girl? What the hell is that guy saying at the very beginning of If I was Your Girlfriend? And what is that woman/girl laughing in a lot of Madhouse and Lovesexy recordings (other than a girl laughing?)? Let the rain come down

I believe the woman voice laughing noise on lovesexy and black album and madhouse (and All My Dreams) is saying "bizarre"
the drums on "release it" are a sample from Tower of Power (although I have not heard the original) The female vocal noise loop on Peach is Kim Bassinger. Prince didn't write the lyrics to "Solo" My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Compare:
"With their tasseled teams They came to McGee's General Store" (Joni) "I was working part time at a five & dime My boss was Mr McGee" (Prince)

I had no idea it was stolen (or, yes, "borrowed" - "referred" even if we're getting all post-modernist over it). Tommy Barbarella used to play it live on his keyboard during the live performances, and I was never convinced the sound even was a real "harmonica". Sounds like a synth patch to me...

I do know one thing. If you play the 12" of Paisley Park, you know, the part in the beginning where a woman says Paisley Park and starts laughing, it says "Love Is Here". Try it, please. I've asked over and over for people to try it so that I can confirm that I'm not insane.
I have to try that whole "Girl" thing. Miguel "....she had the cutest ass he'd ever seen, he did too, they were meant to be." The drum track from Release It is from Tower of Power's Squib Cakes, which is one of my favorite songs of theirs.

I'll have to play that when I go home tonight...never heard that. Is it after the laugh? "Love is Here" is actually Paisley Park backwards. I don't know how the heck he did that but it is. So you'll hear "Paisley Park....laughing" reverse it and you'll hear it. let me know if you hear the same thing. I actually have a program where I can record it then play it backwards without having to use my turntable. Miguel MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! If you play "In All My Dreams" at double speed, the very low, growling voice in the background of the song makes sense. It's Prince reciting a seductive little poem, part of which later became lyrics at the end of "Acknowledge Me." [Edited 10/26/04 15:11pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

[Edited 10/26/04 15:11pm] Or you could say Acknowledge Me samples All My Dreams at the fade out, which would be more accurate
