Just read an interview from the Vegetarian Times from 1997. Prince seems to be fine with the idea of trading stuff - just not selling or buying it.

YIL: How do you feel about tape-trading and bootleg CDs? Have you ever bought a bootleg of one of your own performances?

TA: I understand their existence. But I don't agree with buying and selling stolen property. Trading isn't so despicable.

Hmmmm....

Prince isn't 'fine' with trading stuff at all.
He despises the bootleggers (but does understand why they exist), and he isn't
keen on trading either, but certainly sees it as a lesser evil to buying and
selling.

I heard he went into a wrecka stow and went to the Boot section grabbed his boots and said as he walked out "These are mine" and left.

And at one point he asked everyone 2 send their bootlegs back 2 some strange address. Remember that?
