Prince too religious? Will Prince ever cut that God crap?...
Just as convinced as Prince is that ther's a God,I'm convinced ther isn't any,so don't bother me with that "God is love, love is God"crap.. You won't hear me sing :"girls and boys, please don't love God above" He should give himself more credit for what he's done, instead of giving all the credits to God.. But I guess it's a part of American culture, giving thanks to God on your albums..Am I wrong?

I don't agree with his relgion, but I don't mind him expressing it - I mean if he puts his life in his art, isn't that a good thing?
It's not like him singing about God is a new thing.

It's not like him singing about God is a new thing. True....I only wished he wouldn't sing about it in concert, though. I mean..The Christ??It would be great in a gospel church...But not on my evening out,please..

I agree that Prince has gotten a little too religious lately to the point of sounding "preachy" but there is nothing wrong with giving thanks to God on all the albums. He cannot give himself credit for what he's done without giving credit to God for giving him the talent in the first place. Without his God given talent, he would be a nobody. He MUST give credit to God. Andy is a four letter word.

A man's religion is his own decision. If Prince can use his belief in God to multiply sales and at the same time get the word out that he is a spiritual man then that's good business.
What has bothered me about his religious quest is the way it's alienated some fans. Prince can make such powerful music and in the past it oozed with love in the inclusion of everyone. Love is large enough that it has the capacity to encompass everyone. Lately it feels like in some of Prince's new music that "love" can/will only be shared with certain ones. I admit it. I miss the loving feeling that Prince gave to us in his earlier music. It was a beam of light, a ray of hope. I'm holding out, sure that one day, love will find a way.

Prince is OK singing about God... until he comes off as preaching his beliefs on you.
Otherwise, nothing wrong with acknowledging our creator, whether you believe in him or not.

One of the attributes of Prince's persona (don't know about the man) has been the sense that there was a fierce independence to his art. There was a "This is what I think and fuck you if you don't like it" kind of attitude that roped alot of fans in, especially in the early days. And there was also a vague, psuedo-religious aspect to his music that was pretty broad and undefined. But, Now that independence seems to have found its way into his religion. It's odd, but not really surprising, that it seems to "alienate" people. Personally, I don't give a crap whether anybody here or anywhere else has religious beliefs that are inclusive enough to encompass my own or that I am comfortable with. Why should Prince be the exception? . [Edited 10/21/04 10:10am]

Look just because you are an atheist and don't believe in God don't be goin' around speadin' that shit to nobody else. Just like nobody can force religion on you, you can't force your non-religion on nobody. When yaw get in trouble or danger comes your way ya'll the first muthaf**as to call out God and you don't even believe in HIM. I don't think Prince cares nothin' about you not saying God is love, love is God and lastly, God ain't the crap. YOU ARE! You got somethin' else to say, we can keep arguin' in circles till they put the lock on this mutha!

He's not giving God credit for his work, his Thanking God for what his got. Yes he is giving him the credit. Prince didn't do all that himself. God gave him the give to be a talent. None of us can't do nothin' without God. I ain't trying to hear you naysayers

I love the balance that it brings to his music.Prince is a great musician with it or without it. But honestly, I don't think I would be as big a Prince fan without it. After a while I would have felt like, OK,OK, I get it. You're horny. Give it a rest. CALL ME A DREAMER 2!

Jk10 is soooo correct. Religion is stupid and prince is over bearing these dayz. FUCK GOD.

Ya'll have to understand that the 'JW' believe that that's what they are suppose to do. "WITNESS" I'ts obvious that is very important to him and is taking his religion seriously. He knows that pleasing GOD is more important than pleasing us.

No Prince is not 2 religious. Thats his thing and there isn't anything wrong about how he feels. I love that in him and always will. He sings
from his heart about GOD. Yes there is a GOD he's been there 4 me many of times. Who do u think open ur eyes every day Open ur cold heart and let the warmth in.

I mean..The Christ??It would be great in a gospel church...But not on my evening out,please.. Um, theres a little thing called the first amendment, genius. Why should Prince censor himself? That's one of the things that add to his lore IMO. I'm not religious and it doesn't bother me. That's a very right wing mentality to feel that Prince should lay off of the religious themed lyrics because you're not religious. I loved his early philosophies on religion, like the "rap" at the end of "Let's Pretend We're Married" absolutely genius.

I don't really have the right to say that Prince is "too religious" because, well... it's his life and his music and he can be however he wants to be or feels like he should be. Besides, he doesn't really care what I think, nor should he.
Personally though, I can say for sure that I would like Prince (and his music) more if he wasn't so overtly religious. Almost all of my favorite Prince moments are pre-JW. Since then he's been kind of annoying in the same way that lots of religious people are. If Rainbow Children had different lyrics then I would consider it a great album, because the music is good. His religion doesn't spoil everything for me though. Illusion, Coma Pimp & Circumstance is one of the best Prince songs ever, and that's brand new with no swearing. Sure, if I had my way then I would prefer he not be so pro-Jesus, but he's still super-funky. In the end, that's what really matters from my perspective. As long as he stays funky, I remain a fan. Even if he doesn't, I have earlier albums I can always listen to instead. Z8
