October 19th, 1979 the 3rd (and perhaps most important this year) installment of The October Four:
25 years ago today, the prince album was released. come forward, worship and recognize this joint right here. most folks think that dirty mind was p's first instance of his naughtiness, but in all reality this album was the first to show it ("bambi" and "sexy dancer", anyone? )...and if you got a copy of this on vinyl and a turntable to play it on, put it on and bump it today! oh joy!!!! i ain't got no mo-neeeeeh....

I've often wondered why the long version of Sexy Dancer wasn't included on the album. It's in my top three of Prince 12 inch versions, and the edit version doesn't do it justice. Little? Yeah, right. It might be little but it's loud

yes! i'm thinkin that the reason why they didn't put the full-length version on the album was because of its length--it woulda taken up a good deal of the first side of the album on vinyl. even then, it wouldnt've hurt for warners to put out the 12" here in the states, as opposed to just the u.k. "sd" has to be one of the most slept-on songs in p's repertoire. nevermind the lyrics (i've always thought that the song's lyrics were pretty dumb, heh), the shit is bumpin.

The full length SD really showcasing his musical talents, and he was only 21. Gonna have to pop it in the player now when I get home from work. Little? Yeah, right.
