and see i don't see what the problem is, but whenever there's a "Prince's Worst blahblahblah" everybody starts going off "WELL, THAT CAN'T POSSIBLY BE AS BAD AS THE BATMAN ALBUM!!!" but never say why. i don't get it..oh well.

I love the batman soundtrack !
It realy shows how creative P can be with different music tools
It's also one of his best albums in showing how acurate his sence of timing in his music is.
I think it's one of the most original soundtracks ever made.

"Batdance". And the fact that it had the Batlogo on the cover. Had it been released as "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic" with a few extra songs it would be considered a classic.

I think the fact that it was attached to such a horrible movie, is the only reason I have a hard time with the Batman LP.

I find it amazing that people think The Arms Of Orion is one of the worst tracks on this album. It's one of the rare gems off of it, in my opinion. The only tracks I usually have to skip over are: Lemon Crush and Batdance.

But, to each their own.

It's not a horrible movie. It's a movie for teenagers and kids, yes, but that doesn't make it plain horrible. Judging by today's comic book-movie standards it is actually rather highly appreciated among film-buffoons.

I loved the film and was really happy that he was involved but as to why I too don't rate it as one of his great albums is that every album from Dirty Mind 'till then had contained great great songs and for me personally this was the first one missing that wow factor and got me to thinking that I might not be able to rely on a wonderful Prince album every year for the rest of my life. Was a very sobering thought for me as a young man. Hope that answers your question.

I do like the album however, pretty much the whole way through though I have been known to concentrate on the wallpaper when Partyman is on, unless it's the vid playing.

I am trying to think of a reason...I like your analogy there. It's not something I can put a finger on though. It was a bit ambitious and at the teetering top of his fame. Certainly one of the last of the Purple Albums. I think it sounded so much like Prince and it was indeed over the top in ways...and I think that's it's fallacy. I do indeed like the album. I think it to be better than Graffitti Bridge as that was indeedly widly varied and not congrent enough for me.

Though I think by the time Batman came about and certainly by Graffiti Bridge, he had scored one movie too many.

I kinda like the album myself. It's funny because I went to see the movie Shaun of the Dead and there's a reference to a Prince albums. The main character and his sidekick are trying to kill a zombie with records. One of the guys pulls Purple Rain out and says "Should I hit him with Purple Rain" Sidekick says "No", "Should I hit him with Sign O The Times" "Definately not" "How about the Batman soundtrack" "yes!!!!"

I thought it was hilarious!! Did anyone else catch this movie. It was awesome.

I personally think that this has become the popular thing to say about this album (among some critics). I actually dig a handful of the tracks, and the production on "The Future" and "Batdance" is greatness. I would still bump "Party Man" or "Trust" at a party.

This is easy: It doesn't cohere as an album. Rather, it's just a collection of (mostly) decent tunes, somewhat awkwardly keyed to the movie's plot.

The man is such an original, he doesn't play well with other's (ideas).

I enjoyed the album and thought he was finally getting back on the right track since "Purple Rain"....most of the horns and the retro 60s/70s sound were gone. The thing I didn't like was that "Batdance", "The Future", and "Electric Chair" were basically the same song, just split three ways. "Scandalous" definately ranks up there with "Do Me, Baby".

You hit the nail on the head.

I haven't listened to it probably since the year it came out.... but I had the same feeling. I used to buy P albums the day they were released.... but this was just a let down. I probably liked it the first day or so.... but when you stand back and compare it to everything that came before..... it's just flat and boring.

I can't comment on comparing it to other 90s stuff though other D&P and Symbol, cuz I finally gave up after that. Until now that is smile

[color=cyan]I think the Batman soundtrack was a good album for that time period. It fit the batman movie to the 'T'. Prince did a good job with that album. the song "Arms of Orion" used to be the song on the album that I would never listen to.Soone day I gave it a chance and found out that it was a good song. there's one thing about Prince, he can throw down on a ballad/ slow jam!

i think the batman album is great! he was doing a theme and i think a lot of people don;t get that its inspired by te characters of the film. they call it a sell out record or whatever but, c'mon, its the soundtrack to a comic book movie...what's it supposed to sound like? lol personally, i think its brilliant that he managed to find a connection between his own search for sexual/spiritual redemption and the characters of this film.
