Is it about forgiving the person he's talking to?  ...if so, the number is actually 490 (which actually means till "time indefinite").
Matt 18:21-22: Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. Who is this song to anyway? That might give us an idea. this is just a thought, but if u place 2 sevens together(one being drawn backward), u get a mirrored reflection. maybe he was re-evaluating his life, after the untimely death of his mother.

i feel so stupid now -- i looked at the song, and it does seem to be speaking of the year 1977 (afros, mirrored tiles, etc) -- where Prince was at before the world even knew him. cool! | |

I'm trying to somehow make two 7's into 490 - shouldn't there be a 10 in there too somewhere? Then again, it'd be just like Prince to screw up a math problem in the middle of such a gorgeous song.
