Does Prince Have 1 of the Largest Musical Catalogs out There? R their other artist/musicians with an enormous catalog of music as P? The reason 4 asking is I am trying 2 collect all P’s music and its so much music of his out there that it’s impossible 2 keep up with all the B sides, remixes, downloads (NPGMC), etc. I have over 30 CD’s (including some singles) all retails of his. No boots or illegal copies. So is it unusual 4 an artist to produce as much music as P has done over 20+ years or are there others with as much or more music than him?

oko on directv this month they got a special on her and i watched it yesterday and she said she writes a song a day so she could have a big one | |

ANSWER 1) Johann Sebastian Bach with 17,640 published/ works 2) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with 17,150 published works 3) Ludwig van Beethoven with 13,622 published/ works 4) Johannes Brahms with 8,133 published/ works 5) Prince Rogers Nelson with 7,777 published/ works 6) Joseph Haydn 7) Franz Schubert 8) George Handel 9) Peter Tchaikovsky 10) Robert Schumann Seriously, I got this off the Internet. It's all true -- except for the one I added in as a joke: Handel... er, i mean Prince -- but i wouldn't be surprised if his numbers were almost as big. edit: by the way, before you think Prince can even compare to these other composers -- 1 "published work" might be something as big as a symphony or an opera with dozens of instruments. I think Duke ellington is pretty comparable. He's written thousands of works as well, and they ain't just simple 3 minute pop songs either. In fact, I think they're still tabulating exactly how many songs he wrote. Incidentally I do remember a site saying that Duke might be one of the only people in American history who can rival Bach and other classical composers in terms of the sheer size and variety of his body of work. Duke was always writing songs: on the subway, in the bathtub, in the studio while recording other songs. And he was always rearranging and rerecording old songs too. Duke and his orchestra recorded a number of songs he didn't write (often by his longtime writing/arranging partner Billy Strayhorn, members of the band, his son, or various other sources), but Duke was still among the most prolific songwriters in American history. VERY VERY conservative estimates of it used to say he'd written "over 2000" but I think his body of work has since been measured as being much much larger. | |
