Can you identify Mistakes in any songs?

Has anyone noticed any mistakes in any P songs?

I think he hits a wrong note on the guitar in Lady Cab Driver after he does the "This one's for.... " bit and then goes into a bit of a guitar riff/solo... Im sure he hits a bum note somewhere in there...

I noticed the same in Loose where he is doing a similar guitar riff/solo... in fact I think it is after he says "guitar solo" and plays a repetetive riff over and over... one of them he hits a bum note...

Also if you listen to Space, universal love mix, after the second verse where he sings "All the pain that a human has to go through" his voice is distant, but then the next line "In a planet thats so bitter n cold" he comes in with a voice closer to the mic and continues the rest ... Its like he forgot to sing the first line and then comes in after that...

Mind you, the Space mistake is probably down to the production as it is a remix... did he do the remix or did someone else?

Are there any more noticeable errors in anything?

Anxiety

the background vocals in "forever in my life" were a mistake, but he liked how it sounded, so he kept it.

There seems to be a wrong chord about a whole or half a step down in When U Were Mine when he comes back from one of the vocal/guitar-only parts.

In Joy In Reptition...right after We Can Funk

"down there on 36th"...listen to it very closely right on the guitar lick..the song's surround sound breaks and actually skips a bit on accident.

Oh and "I Dont Wanna Leave you" (The Time) the song keeps on going in2 a lil jam..then all of a sudden it breaks off and these loud synths come on out of no where.

I have a show from France (I think), where Prince does the "black, white, Puerto Rican," thing, then goes, "OK, maybe not so many Puerto Ricans (!)"

He also says "a funky little story 'bout you and I," when grammatically, it's proper to say "you and me," but that don't rhyme. wink

He also likes to switch "perfume" and "cologne" in reference to who wears it - a man or a woman (or prince). Part of the fun of lyric writing is messing with the language, tho.

In Everywhere I always thought the word "and" in where the milk and honey flow...was a bit too loud or something.

The out of key singing of Appolonia in Take Me with you.

She had to be giving him head during the editing to let that go. Especially towards the end of the song.

Really? I could have sworn he said "you and I" in "I Wanna Melt With U." I might have been thinking about "When Doves Cry." Or "3 Chains O' Gold." It must be another song; I'll get back to you on that.

There are some very noticeable slips in the live releases: 1 horn note completely out of time with the other 2 horns in the middle of Pop Life from the Las Vegas DVD for instance. But hey, they were using music stands and Eric might not have played some of that stuff for a while smile

The most noticeable mistake on his studio recordings - IMHO - is at the end of Extraordinary on the Vault album. That guitar sounds a bit weird just before the end at about 2.17 , doesn't it ? -edited strangely and it doesn't quite fit with the end bit ! Bet you it was the wrong take, but since it was a contractual release , he might not have revisited it before packing it off to WB.

I've got a recording of a SOTT gig in Sweden where the drum machine goes completely out of time during Girls and Boys.

There's also the ending of I Don't Want To Leave You from the Times What Time Is It? record...

near the end, the song basically cuts and goes into a vamp.... this happens out of nowhere...

anyways, Prince told questlove that the tape was damaged and that was how they edited it...

Yikes

If I Was Your Girlfriend should be If I Were Your Girlfriend

Also, there are many examples of "You Was" instead of "You Were"

Then again, it really doesn't matter

I always thought that the line in 'la la la means i love u' that went something like "and to be frankly I don't give a damn" was a mistake as it should read "frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" from gone with the wind. but hey that's what make me like that line - so P if you're listening and you're preparing to "re-master" emancipation and take all the mistakes out -DON'T OK! i like your unperfectness!

I dont think its fair to state that lyrics are a "mistake". Not in the gramatical way anyway, sometimes grammer has to be broken in order to fit...

Having said that, it can certainly be said that some lyrics are definately a mistake in that they should never have been written! The opposite of NATO springs to mind.... That lyric should never have been penned IMO...

there's a glitch in the drum machine pattern in 'something in the water (does not compute)'. i can't remember exactly where it is - i'm at work and haven't got the track to hand. i think it may be at the start, just before the vocals come in. there's a messed up double snare thing that happens, sounds wrong and out of time.

but i like it somehow...

My favourite mistake, if can call it that, is the lyric change of Little Girl Wendy’s Parade” to “Christopher Tracy’s Parade”.

Everyone should come and dig, Little girl Wendy’s guitar,
The chord strikes,
The devil no like,
So he runs to his evil car

WORKS FINE!

Everyone should come and dig, Christopher Tracy’s piano,
The chord strikes,
The devil no like,
So he runs to his evil car

DOES NOT!

I have visions of Prince sitting there, trying to rhyme Piano and failing every time……”Meow….no, Joanno….no….damn! I’ll leave it as it is!”
