Sign Of The Times is definitly the overlooked classic (meaning if you are not a fan). Most people would automatically say Purple Rain though.

Im only going to respond to the topic stated where u said Musicology is a classic....

In a way I think the CONCERT is a clasic, but on the album level, it's almost like Gold Experience, and Gold was much moire entertaining.

Oh..and Sign O The Times is a classic despite him being angry that time.

The PRINCE album is a classic. I love the way it sounds. It has that recorded-in-a-garage feel to it-- for some reason.

As for musicology being a classic... eek

For me the perfect albums are:
Dirty Mind
1999
Parade
Lovesexy
The Rainbow Children

There are piles of classic albums
Prince
Purple Rain
Around the World in a Day
SOTT
Gold
and more

"For You & Prince" are truly classic Prince albums.

I played So Blue, When Were dancing close and slow for a friend,
and they had no clue that it was him.

LRC1999

Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain, Sign of the Times

Parade is close but it feels almost too short, 0(-> without the Kirstie Alley skits, and Around the World in a Day if the greatest b-side ever (She's Always in My Hair) was included.

If you'd ask the general public which are the 'classics', they'll say Purple Rain, Batman, Diamonds & Pearls and - in time - Musicology. They'll be the best known, I guess.

I agree with the above picks. I would also have to say Purple Rain because of it's popularity.

Jon

I dont know if this counts, but I think the Hits/B Sides is a classic in that it captures the whole decade of what is, by and large, a classic decade...

And to have a "greatest hits" span three discs, all quality is a testament to how good he really was then. Not to mention how much more could have gone into it...

Things started to go a little pear shaped after that...
