Did Prince Ever Get Back At...

Eminem?

In Em's song "Without Me", he sings:

Now let's go, just give me the signal
I'll be there with a whole list full of new insults
I've been dope, suspenseful with a pencil
Ever since Prince turned himself into a symbol

Em likes to dog on a lot of people, and I know Prince got back at Missy, but did he ever get back at Em?

This is not a dis.It only tells you the time that Eminem started doing his thing. There is no reason to get back at him.

Well, the line could be misinterpreted and misunderstood, the way I took it. Also, look at this. In Missy's song "Work It", like you all know, she sings:

"Just 'cause I got a lot of fame, supa
Prince couldn't get me change my name, papa"

That doesn't really sound offensive either when you look at it, but why would Prince put:

"I'm gonna put her on the same diet Missy went on" in his lyrics? Isn't this kind of taking a shot at her? So, this being sort of the same situation, this is why I was wondering if P ever said anything back to Eminem.

And as far as Em being a fan of P, I doubt it. Coming from a guy who is homophobic and has a hard time accepting the gay community, I couldn't picture him liking someone who comes off as gay (ie: the heels, the drag, the lipstick and mascara, etc.) Kid Rock doesn't like Prince either, and Kid and Em are cool, but you never know...

i don't understand why everyone thinks that line is a diss on prince. especially compared to some of the other things em says about people.

Well, like I said, if you just heard the line nonchalantly in the song and have never really read the lyrics or never actually listened to the song and heard people talking about a P reference, it may come across to you as Em making a dis on Prince. But I totally agree with you about it being compared to the other things Em says.

I've heard that from a couple different sources too. No idea if it's true or not though.

Regardless of the thing's Eminem's said about gays, I've suspected for a while that he might be in the closet. Dude just doesn't seem hetero, so I doubt he's actually homophobic. As to why he'd say shit like that: who knows?

yeah ive heard from a friend em said in an interview he wanted 8 mile to be the purple rain of his generation.

its not a diss, and the missy thing i think is more tongue in cheek, didnt missy go on about dieting for a while and she lost weight, i remember it was abit of a thing for her so its probably a tongue in cheek reference to missy making public her dieting!

From what I've seen, the most dangerous gay bashers in the world are closet homosexuals. Usually when a group of bashers drive around a gay club and throw bottles, there is usually one in the group that ends up fooling around when he is alone and away from his friends.

They have a deep hatred for themselves....they are the ones that are weak.

you just hit the nail on the head. you didn't merely interpret the lines differently, you misinterpreted and misunderstood. congratulations, admitting your mistakes is your first step to recovery.

but alas, your digression begins here:

Missy's lyrics weren't offending Prince, and Prince's lyrics in turn don't see to be offensive either. did Missy go a diet? yes. did Missy lose weight? yes. telling someone you are going to put them on a diet that is proven to work is hardly an insult to the person who was on the diet. it is actually a compliment. Missy had a succedsful diet. to tell someone the diet will work is a compliment to Missy, just to state again.

time to do some self analysis, pal, and find out why you are so defensive towards music lyrics. just because an individual is the subject of a lyric doesn't mean that lyric is an insult.

no offense, but your interpretations of these lyrics speak more about you and your seemingly defensive frame of mind than they do of the artists who sing them.
this message brought to you by logic.
